NFL QB Jared Goff “went to Jared” and got 8 Breitling watches to thank his offensive line
Zach BlassI almost cast this off as a joke, but it turns out that NFL Quarterback for the Detroit Lions Jared Goff went to US-based jeweller Jared to get eight Breitling watches for his offensive line teammates as a thank-you for “watching out for me all season.” This is one of many instances of teammates, or even actors or musicians, purchasing or acquiring watches as a thank-you to their supporting cast.

I say ‘got’ instead of ‘bought’ because it is abundantly clear a partnership was struck considering the hashtag ‘#JaredPartner’ was used in his caption. And, to be fair, it is a perfect fit. The cheekiness of Jared “going to Jared” to get watches and the fact that his ‘punny’ promotion of this gift was blasted out to 456K followers on Instagram and picked up by various media outlets gives Jared ‘The Galeria of Jewelry’ great exposure ahead of Valentine’s Day in the USA (Goff’s post was shared on February 9).
For Americans, the joke is clear-cut. I remember being bombarded by “he went to Jared” commercials all the time growing up – the premise being one loser who did not “go to Jared” to get their partner a nice gift and a winning hero who did. For reference, you can watch the video above.
Furthermore, the watches were presented in special packaging with an inscription adjacent to the watch that reads “Every second of this year was timeless. Thank you for a historic season and bringing gridiron glory back to Detroit. Enjoy this gift by Jared, from your Jared.”
Now the watch in question is the Breitling Super Chronomat B01 44 ref. UB0136251B1S1, a sizeable diver’s chronograph encased in stainless steel with 18K red gold accents on the bezel, crown, and pushers that is outfitted on a Roleaux bracelet-style black rubber strap and has a retail price of US$11,500 (which multiplied by eight would cost US$92,000). For my 6.5-inch wrist, its 44mm diameter, or, rather, its 53.5mm lug-to-lug measurement is intimidating for a wrist like mine. But for the giants protecting him on his offensive line, these watches will wear like a Datejust 36. Exhibited inside is the automatic B01 chronograph calibre, derived with Kenissi and also used by Tudor. It is a column-wheel chronograph movement with 70 hours of power reserve that also includes a date complication which you can find neatly embedded within the counter found at the 6′ position of the dial.
If only I had as much clout as Jared Goff, and a jeweller called “Zach” to leverage a partnership with. Jokes aside, it is a lovely gift from a Quarterback to his teammates. And while Jared could certainly afford to just buy the watches outright, I don’t blame him for subsidizing it through a quick cheesy partnership post. Win-win.
