Ryan Gosling wears the perfect TAG Heuer for Barbie movie premiere
Zach BlassIf actor and TAG Heuer ambassador Ryan Gosling did not wear this watch at some point during his press junket for the upcoming Barbie movie, it would have been a major slip-up by the TAG Heuer team. I mean, while perhaps a bit too obvious, it is also too perfect. After releasing four colourful and upgraded Carrera Date 36mm watches this past Watches & Wonders, to have Ryan wear the new hot pink dial variant was an absolute must. During the Canadian press day for Barbie on June 28, Gosling finally strapped the pink Carrera Date 36mm to his wrist – ABOUT ‘EFFING TIME!
Personally, while I am definitely glad the watch found its way onto the red carpet, I will be a bit disappointed if he does not have the watch on at some point in the film. Taking on the role of Ken in the film, Barbie is packed, naturally, with a spectrum of bold pastel colours – especially pink. Yes, he is not playing Barbie. But, I think it is in the realm of believability that Ken would be pink-curious as well.
In its 36mm size, the watch has classic dimensions that can suit pretty much any wrist. I am unsure if Margot Robbie still has ties to Richard Mille, but theoretically she and Gosling could both sport the reference in the movie without question or it feeling forced. Granted, there are business logistics and hoops that have to be jumped through before such wrist-cameos could happen.
If anything, this is a visual reminder that, with the summer season officially kicking off last week in the northern hemisphere, if you need some bold colour in your collection, from a celebrated name in watchmaking, and at a Swiss-luxury entry price-point, the Carrera Date 36mm is a great way to go. And, if you could not already tell, the pink is hands-down my favourite.
