It’s 2015. We’re all pretty familiar with the concept of a pop-up shop. But a pop-up exhibition is a whole other level. But this was how Blancpain elected to showcase their involvement with the Ocean Commitment project at this year’s Baselworld fair.

Ocean Commitment is an important part of Blancpain’s corporate social responsibility program. Ocean commitment supports a range of initiatives to preserve and raise awareness around the health of marine ecosystems. For example Blancpain supports National Geographic’s Pristine Seas expeditions and sponsors the World Ocean Summit. Beyond these direct investments in oceanic exploration Blancpain take an active role in raising awareness. Through limited edition watches (like this years stunning ceramic Ocean Commitment flyback chronograph) and events like this exhibition.

But perhaps the most impressive role the Ocean Commitment program has is around the protection of marine environments – to date more than 2.2 million square kilometres of ocean have been accorded protected status.

The exhibition, aside from showcasing watches (this is Blancpain at Baselworld after all) explored the brand’s long history with diving, the scientific projects Blancpain has supported as well as some of the worlds best underwater photography. Besides giving an overview of the exhibition the video (especially the opening time-lapse montage) provides a great behind the glamour glimpse at Blancpain and Baselworld.
