FRIDAY WIND DOWN: New Zenith Pilot pop-up exhibit coming to NYC from August 8 to September 10

At Watches & Wonders, Zenith overhauled their Pilot’s watch and debuted a new collection of Pilot Automatic and Pilot Big Date Flyback Chronograph watches. While most, when it comes to Zenith, think of the Defy and Chronomaster collections, they also have rich roots within the realm of Pilot’s watches.

This is why a new pop-up exhibition coming to NYC presents a neat opportunity to get a closer look at not only the new Zenith Pilot watches, but also Zenith’s history with Pilot’s watches as well. Running from August 8 to September 10 at the Watches of Switzerland Hudson Yards boutique, visitors can check out, among other things, six historical Pilot’s watches from Zenith and compare them to the new collection all “in the metal”.

Zenith explains: “Watches of Switzerland Hudson Yards will have on display six Zenith Pilot heritage pieces alongside the new Pilot collection of stainless steel and ceramic three-hand automatics and flyback chronographs featuring new El Primero movements. The Pilot Heritage selection embodies the pioneering spirit of aviation and showcases the timeless elegance of classic pilot watches. By presenting these iconic timepieces alongside their latest models, visitors have a unique opportunity to draw connections between the past and the present, celebrating the evolution of the collection’s design and innovation. This extraordinary exhibition pays homage to the Manufacture’s heritage and provides invaluable insight into the inspirations behind the new models, adding depth and context to Zenith’s horological endeavours.

“The selection of historic Pilot pieces on display includes the Dashboard Altimeter (1910s), Pilot Wristwatch (1928-1930s), Chronograph Tipo CP2 (1968-72), El Primero Pilot-Diver (1972), El Primero Rainbow Fly-Back (1997), and El Primero Pilot Big Date Special (2010).”

If you are in the NYC area, the pop-up will be open to the public from August 8 from 10 am – 8 pm until September 10, at the Watches of Switzerland Hudson Yards Boutique.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

There is an absolute high we all get as watch collectors when we bring a new watch in. But, shortly afterwards, you then have a moment of post-hunt clarity, where you start to wonder what now? Regardless of whether or not you are happy with what you just purchased, there is a sombre note to knowing you have just depleted your watch funds and cannot go on another exciting watch-hunt until your funds recharge. First world watch-collector problems though 😂. The commenters on Brodinkee’s post said it best. “Enjoy for three days. Rinse. Repeat.” “When is Watches and Wonders again?” Way too relatable.

Wrist shot of the week: A Hank Aaron watch in the Hank Aaron Terrace

I grabbed a quick photo of the Oris Hank Aaron Limited Edition, in the Hank Aaron Terrace, on Teddy Baldassarre’s wrist

Last week, I was part of the watch media that joined Oris in Atlanta for the launch of a new Hank Aaron Limited Edition. Aaron, an absolute MLB legend, is not only known for his incredible offensive game in baseball, but also for his efforts off the field as a human. So, it was truly an honour to get to tour Trust Park, where the Atlanta Braves play, and see the new limited edition watch within a space that celebrates all facets of the man. You can read our full introduction of the watch, which supports his Chasing the Dream foundation, right here.

Jake Paul tips his barber with a US$11K Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch

Rolex Jake Paul

Recently, controversy-ridden YouTuber turned “boxer” Jake Paul took things too far – for once in a good way. At least for his barber, when Paul tipped him with a US$11K Rolex Oyster Perpetual. Find the full story here.

VIDEO: Bulgari’s new Aluminium Capri and Match Point get a splash of summer-ready colour

Despite being launched during Watches & Wonders, Bulgari’s summer-ready intentions were clear with their latest Aluminium limited edition duo. Named the Capri and Match Point, both seem perfectly capable companions for any holiday adventure, whether it be dipping into the azure waters off the Italian coast, or playing three points of tennis before collapsing into the nearest deck chair. Check out the video above to learn more about these two new Bulgari Aluminium limited editions.
