FRIDAY WIND DOWN: Movement maker giant Sellita caught up in Swiss super-storm

Borna Bošnjak

Our Friday Wind-Down usually serves as a restful, fun read after a week of slaving away beneath fluorescent bulbs and drop ceilings. This week, however, catastrophic news from La Chaux-de-Fonds has put a dampener on things, as inclement weather ripped through the region, causing significant damage to buildings, more than a dozen injured people, and, more unfortunately, at least one casualty.

Alongside overturned cars and large trees being ripped out of the grounds, Sellita’s factory lost its roof and multiple exterior windows. Luckily, due to the European summer holidays, the region was relatively empty as employees were enjoying time off work. Many are also concerned about the impact this catastrophe will have on Swiss movement supply, especially considering ETA’s dwindling supply.

Our thoughts are with those affected by this event.

It’s always exciting when Studio Underd0g releases a new colourway, even though the last few were limited in nature. The new Blueberry doesn’t have an O in the name that could be replaced by a zero, but this blue-tinged beauty is a piece unique destined for a good cause. Benefitting cancer support in the UK, Studio Underd0g is teaming up with a number of manufacturers in an Only Watch-like auction in August. Stay tuned for coverage of the lots, and check out Studio Underd0g’s regular-production offering in the T+T Shop.

Time+Tide Shop pick of the week – Baltic HMS002

There isn’t much more that can be said about the Baltic HMS002 that haven’t been said already. In the realm of super-affordable, it’s about as good as it gets from an already established independent brand. The symmetrical dial layout isn’t interrupted by any date window nonsense, and the 38mm size is just right for everyday wear. You can find all three dial variations of the HMS002 right here in the Time+Tide Shop.
Price: A$725

HANDS-ON: The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante

From brand confusion to elation, any release from their Tonda PF range is bound to become somewhat of a sensation. When they released their Rattrapante GMT last year, the notion of a perfectly hidden third hand in a refined and robust package had collectors and reviewers alike gushing its praises, and things are no different with this new release. Evolving the hidden-hand premise to a unique complication, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante is the latest release to be added to many people’s grail list.

7 of the best dress watches

While I don’t agree with the precious metal two-hander formula completely, I do concur that dress watches should be minimal, slim and trend towards being smaller than average sizes – you’ll quickly pick up on this theme as you read on to discover our picks for the best dress watches around.
