Parmigiani Fleurier dresses up the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante

  • Parmigiani Fleurier follows up arguably their best 2022 release with a precious metal version in 18k rose gold
  • The sleek GMT watch features a stunning hand-guilloché grain d’orge dial highlighted by 18k rose gold appliques
  • Combining rattrapante and GMT functionality, the PF051 calibre may just be the greatest thing since sliced bread

Causing a splash at the 2022 edition of Watches & Wonders, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante is back in new 18k rose gold attire. For those that missed it, this is simply one of the most ingenious ways anyone’s ever done a GMT function. Combine that with the Tonda PF GMT’s dashing good looks, and you’ve got a winning formula on your hands. I’ll get into the movement details in a bit, but imagine a combination of a rattrapante chronograph and a travel time complication. Clean it up and minimalise it – et voilà!

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante rose gold dial

The dial colour remains unchanged – that deep Milano blue featuring a guilloché main grain d’orge pattern, uninterrupted by unnecessary indices or logos. The small prisms surround the dial perimeter, hand-applied, of course, with an equally minimal Parmigiani Fleurier logo and hour and minute hands matching their 18k rose gold finish. The GMT hand flips from a rose gold on the steel model to an 18k gold rhodium-plated number – skeletonised just like the main handset.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante rose gold case profile

Its operation is controlled by the pusher integrated into the crown – Parmigiani chose not to highlight it here like they did in the stainless-steel version – and the sleek pusher integrated into the bottom left lug. All of these elements match the case’s 18k rose gold construction, with some of the most beautiful lug integrations in the business. Their curvature continues beyond the crisp edge of the brushed finish, giving way to a razor-thin highlight on their inside. The anti-reflective sapphire crystal front is surrounded by the signature knurled bezel, while the sapphire caseback is a screwed onto the case, offering 60 metres of water resistance.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapanterose gold bracelet

The flat-link bracelet is shouldered by polished links, finished in a clasp with the brand’s post-facelift logo. Much like the lugs, the lines simply flow, making these Parmigiani bracelets some of the most comfortable wearers I’ve experienced, and I’m sure the rose gold GMT will be the same despite the extra precious metal heft.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante movement

The PF051 calibre ties in the guilloché finish of the dial in the engraving of the 22k gold micro-rotor, with the rest of the calibre richly decorated with Geneva striping, circular graining and polished chamfers. One detail that you cannot see is the action of the GMT pushers – while I haven’t had a chance to test out the rose gold variant, they are by far the smoothest-operating pushers on any watch I’ve ever experienced – period. Satisfying clicks follow just the right amount of resistance, making the rattrapante hand glide into position. As far as tech specs go, its a 3 Hz, 31-jewel calibre with a 48-hour power reserve, measuring in at 32mm in diameter and a smidge under 5mm in thickness.
