With more and more people looking to buy wristwatches, it is crucial that there are more fiscally viable opportunities to join in on the fun. Many people can’t spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a watch. Fortunately, however, you don’t necessarily have to in order to secure some high-quality wristwear. We recently shared a video on our top picks of 2021 for watches under $1,000 USD and, following Andrew’s call to action, you shared your favourites with us. After sifting through hundreds of comments, an indisputable champion emerged.

With one out of every four comments singing its praise, the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical bronze was the irrefutable Time+Tide audience favourite. To highlight a few comments…

“Great list – I love the Hamilton (happen to be wearing my Hamilton Khaki Auto in 38mm) – significant American military history behind this line.” – John Danola

“Wearing my Oris Big Crown Pointer Date. I’m most interested in the Hamilton Khaki Bronze. That bronze case with the dial looks so good.” – Joel Moore

“Hamilton Bronze… I’ve been itching for a bronze watch for a while.” – Pat Hayes

“Wearing a Submariner 16610 and would spend my money on that Hamilton” – Barbell Binks

The People’s Champion: The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Bronze

Khaki Field Mechanical Bronze

We totally get why the overwhelming majority of commenters voted for the Khaki Field Mechanical Bronze – the entire range is well known for being the veteran collector recommendation to those looking for quality on a budget. Dollars aside, Hamilton’s Khaki Field is certainly one of the best options for a military-style field watch. Given its authenticity – the Hamilton brand actually supplied watches to the American military – and the quality they provide, it’s a no-brainer for those looking for vintage sensibilities with the security and robustness afforded by modern manufacture. This version in bronze is an especially cool take, with the faux-aged lume matching the coppery case tones and brown leather NATO strap keeping the tones warm. The 38mm size is extremely versatile, and the hand-wound H-50 calibre is a welcome feature. $825 USD
