Tudor taps into the “daring spirit” of its ambassadors for new Black Bay Chrono Pink

Zach Blass
  • Tudor has launched a new Black Bay Chrono Pink inspired by ambassadors David Beckham’s Inter Miami CF and Jay Chou’s love for pink.
  • It is not just a dial evolution, it is also presented on a five-link bracelet with a T-fit clasp – a first for the range.
  • Unfortunately, Tudor claims “only a small number will be produced.”

Pink dials are no longer by any means profound in the watch marketplace. While pink dials were, once upon a time, more scarce – reserved for “women’s collections” and special moments like the Pink Dial Project Auction – now there are plenty of pink-dialled watches of all sizes and types to explore. But, with the Wilsdorf sibling brands, any sense of progress and bolder expression has that much more impact (rightfully or wrongfully so). Rolex once made a pink splash with the ‘Candy Pink’ Oyster Perpetual. Now, Tudor enters the fray with a new Tudor Black Bay Chrono “Pink” inspired by the brand’s ambassadors David Beckham (whose Inter Miami CF football club wears pink jerseys) and Jay Chou (who is known to wear pink often) and how they, in Tudor’s “born to dare” spirit, boldly love pink. A bit much on the marketing there, eh?

Black Bay Chrono Daring

In the way of novelty, few elements are truly new with this release. The few novel elements, however, have a meaningful impact. First and most obvious is the pink panda dial which does add a bolder sense of playfulness to the previously black and white range. The second, however, is more subtle: a first-ever five-link bracelet within the Black Bay Chrono collection – and with a T-fit clasp! Whether or not you dig the jubilee-style bracelet on a chronograph is one thing, but I think we can all get on board with a wider spread of the T-fit clasp which, like Rolex’s Glidelock, allows for on-the-fly micro-adjustment to perfectly fine-tune the bracelet’s fit on the wrist. The rest remains the same, with a 200-metre water-resistant 41mm stainless steel case, black anodised aluminum bezel insert, and COSC-certified automatic vertical clutch column-wheel chronograph MT5813 movement with 70 hours of power reserve.

Look, I know you probably have sensed a hint of sarcasm from me. While I do not think this pink dial is as “daring” or “unexpected” as Tudor thinks it is, I do think this is a very cool release. That is ultimately why the fact Tudor has stated the watch will be produced in a small number of examples is so devastating to hear. Tudor explains, “The Black Bay Chrono “Pink” might not be for everyone, and that’s OK because few of them will ever be made… Only a small number of examples will be produced.” I think Tudor has underestimated the market for pink-dialled watches, but, then again, in its scarcity, this Black Bay Chrono Pink will certainly be highly collectible with a secondary market premium down the line.
