The story behind our Night Surfer – a Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton with five premieres and limited to 100 pieces

Andrew McUtchen

When I say ‘our’ there in the title; ‘our’ Night Surfer, a nickname this watch adopted early on when the vertical gradient of the dial and star came together, I mean it. The amount of collaboration that went into this extraordinary watch is hard to adequately describe in a short written post. So in anticipation of this moment, we shot a video interview. To paddle hard while the swell of attention is on and to catch the wave. If you’re already sold, you can pick it up here.

The video is with me, Zenith’s Romain Marietta – Director of Product and Heritage – and CEO, Julien Tornare. In it, we excavate the whole process. How and where the collaboration started, what the watch was originally intended to be, and the inspiration behind the name, in more detail. We hope you enjoy this long form / mini doco that tells a behind the scenes story of the Zenith Defy Classic Skeleton “Night Surfer” Time+Tide Edition. As for the five premieres (in the video we only list four, Romain forgot to tell me about one until after we filmed, seriously), you’ll have to watch. Can’t give it all away.
