New dials, movements and clasps for the Tudor Black Bay 31/36/39/41 collection

Fergus Nash
  • Tudor have overhauled their fixed-bezel Black Bay watches in steel.
  • The new collection features modern in-house movements and the T-fit clasp.
  • All watches are available in blue, anthracite, or champagne, with or without diamond markers.

Following last year’s Watches & Wonders blast of two-tone releases, it’s now time that the Tudor Black Bay fixed-bezel models in steel get their overhaul. The Tudor Black Bay 31/36/39/41, for want of a better collection name, turned a lot of heads with its dive watch dials and dress watch bezels. The hybridisation creates a look which is jarring at first to those who are used to keeping things separate, and yet quickly grows into a sophisticated character or refinement and adventure.

Having these watches in stainless steel is an important staple of Tudor’s catalogue, as they often provide tasteful options for budget-conscious customers as well as those who just want a sports watch with a difference. The polished bezels and brushed cases balance the mix of sportiness and dressiness well, as does the Jubilee style bracelet which is now available on every variation of the Tudor Black Bay 31/36/39/41, fitted with a T-fit clasp that boasts 8 positions of micro-adjustment. The gender neutrality is also a great boon for these watches, as the designs and features are largely unchanged between the different sizes.

In terms of those features, each of the four sizes are as close to each other in specifications as possible. The 31mm models have an in-house movement with approximately 50 hours of power reserve as opposed to the 70-hour power reserves of the others, but that is pretty much the only concession. There are three colour variations which each have very distinct characters. The first is a sunburst blue dial with crisp white markers, next is an anthracite with warm gold details, and finally there is a light champagne dial. The Tudor Black Bay 31/36/39/41 models are all available with or without diamond-set hour markers as well, providing you the option of some extra dressy flash.
