FRIDAY WIND DOWN: The 62 Only Watch 2023 lots have been unveiled – these are 10 standouts

Zach Blass

As far as weekly watch news goes, this week really packed in a lot of excitement. A new “Summer Blue” Omega Seamaster 75th Anniversary Collection, new carbon-cased Tudor FXD watches, and the unveiling of the 2023 Only Watch charity auction lots to raise money for research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and related genetic diseases.

There are 62 lots in total, and all are quite strong and unique offerings. But we put our heads together and compiled 10 that really stood out to us. You can find them below.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Watch meme of the week: Torch the dial

OK, simmer down. If anything it is more so paraphrasing than plagiarism. Omega has made nature-inspired dials in the past, and if there was any moment for them to translate the imagery of the ocean onto a dial it would be for the 75th anniversary of their Seamaster watch. While certain brands, like Seiko and Grand Seiko are heavily associated with nature-inspired aesthetics, nobody owns nature as a muse. Chopard has their “eagle iris” dial, Oris also has delved into ocean-inspired dials. Considering how handsome the “Summer Blue” collection is, I definitely give Omega a pass – not that they really need one.

Wrist shot of the week: Game, set, match

I don’t believe we have ever awarded the wrist shot of the week to a brand’s Instagram account, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Strapped to the wrist of ATP professional tennis player, and friend of the brand, Tim van Rijthoven, it is great to see the Gerald Charles Maestro GC Sport “Grass” shot above the court surface it was inspired by. And, while it may not look like it, the watch is designed to be worn while playing – it’s more robust than you would think.

Omega celebrates 75 years of the Seamaster with new “Summer Blue” collection

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Omega’s staple Seamaster collection, and over these 75 years the collection has grown and evolved with various branches of complications, aesthetics, colours, and materials. But this week, it was all about eight new watches (11 configurations) in one unified colour: “Summer Blue”.

I think I have hit a wall in my watch-collecting journey…

Halfway into 2023, Zach has reflected on not just the state of his collection, but also the state of his watch-collecting journey – and he currently finds himself at an impasse. Dig into the full story here.

Sam Kerr joins IWC to continue the brand’s tradition of sporting greats

IWC has enjoyed a long relationship with two legendary sportsmen in the form of Lewis Hamilton and, until recently, Tom Brady. What’s interesting though, is how the Schaffhausen brand now seem to be consciously targeting female sporting equivalents who, if they continue their impressive trajectory, could soon command similar reputations.
