BASELWORLD 2014: Day 4 – New Rolex Models on the Wrist.
Felix ScholzWithout a doubt, the booth with the biggest crowds throughout Baselworld was Rolex. And this year there was a genuine buzz, with some eagerly awaited updates, as well as some unexpected ones, and a completely revamped collection that was last updated way back in 2005.
We were lucky to spend some quality one on one time with the new models, before they come to Australia later this year. In time we’ll go into more depth about these pieces, but for now here are some on the wrist pictures of the 2014 releases.
This year Rolex completely revamped the ageing Cellini line of dressier watches – This is the Cellini Date in Everose Gold.
And here is the elegant Cellini Dual Time in white gold. Note the day/night indicator on the second time display.
In a less than expected move Rolex updated their professional dive watch, the Sea-Dweller – and pleased purists by keeping he watch at 40mm wide.
The Milgauss – Rolex’s antimagnetic watch, got a facelift with a brand new blue dial. Combined with the green sapphire crystal and orange second hand and accents, this is probably Rolex’s quirkiest watch.
And of course the watch that everyone was hoping and praying for was the updated GMT-Master II, with ceramic pepsi bezel. That the first iteration of this watch was in white gold was a little bit of a surprise move, but it’s an absolute stunner on the wrist.
Last, but definitely not least, Rolex proved their bling credibility by releasing a platinum Cosmograph Daytona with pave dial baguette diamond bezel. Not a lightweight on the wrist.
