Titanium, generally speaking, is an under-utilised watchmaking material. It’s super light on your wrist, the darker tone of the metal looks great (especially when it’s sandblasted) and it’s still hard-wearing enough to handle anything you might throw at it during your day-to-day. After the success of TAG Heuer’s titanium collaboration with Bamford, we now have the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 in titanium, a watch that capitalises on the luxury of having something lightweight yet substantial, on your wrist.

The titanium case in question measures 43mm in diameter, which might read like a large watch to those who prefer their timepieces in the 37mm-41mm so-called Goldilocks zone (myself included), but is actually extremely wearable for a range of wrist sizes.

You might also imagine that a watch of that size would attract the eye of everyone in the room, however the darkened hue of the case material keeps the watch very much under the radar.

The dial of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 in titanium is another real highlight. It features the same horizontally striped motif that has become consistent across the Aquaracer collection, however brushed into those shallow trenches is a delightfully playful sunburst effect that works with the light nicely.

Of course, 2021 being the unofficial Year of Green Watches, the dial is a metallic olive tone, which builds on the military vibe that the sandblasted titanium case suggests. It matches the more muted green of the ceramic bezel, complimenting the mustard highlights on the dial, bezel and seconds hand.

The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 in titanium represents a refreshing new look for the Aquaracer collection that offers a more than welcome injection of contemporary vitality. The date at 6 o’clock, a function-forward new bracelet design and the bold new appetite for experimentation firmly plants this watch on the right side of 2020.

It’s a functional sports watch that could be worn on your lakeside holiday as easily as it could be in the Ritz-Carlton Club lounge, as well as everywhere in between.
