The 5 spookiest Halloween watches

Borna Bošnjak

Halloween is always a bit of a hoot, whether you engage in a bit of trick and treating or pumpkin carving. For the true fans of the holiday, however, Halloween ain’t no Halloween without a party, and it ain’t no Halloween party without an appropriate costume. That’s the easy part, though – *insert anything here*, make it slutty, et voilà – Halloween costume. Your choice of wristwear is the far more arduous task, so we took it upon ourselves to give you five excellent options. I leave you with a Halloween watch meme and a list of similarly themed watches.

Swatch It’s Spooky Time

If you need a cute and quirky design, look no further than Swatch. Seemingly never arid of simple yet original ideas, Swatch has tasked their Big Bold with this year’s Halloween edition. The large 47mm case, which thankfully wears much better due to the wrist-conforming shape, is rendered in black Bioceramic, with orange accents that complement the dial. Using a modified calendar mechanism, Swatch animates the empty sockets of the black skull printed on the dial, with colourful rotating eyes. Contender for best date window cut-out, anyone? Price: A$190

Mr Jones Watches The Accurate

Taking a rather accepting standpoint towards all things death is Mr Jones’ brilliant The Accurate. Not only is it an accurate watch, mostly due to its Ronda quartz movement, but the message composed of the hands is also, quite literally, accurate. The sunburst, mirrored dial is also meant to serve as a reminder, that the message is for you – the wearer. Out of all the Halloween watches on this list, The Accurate is certainly the most everyday wear-friendly. Price: £195

Tikker Watch

Doubling down on the whole you-don’t-have-as-much-time-as-you’d-like-to-think ordeal is the Tikker Watch. Using a simple algorithm, it calculates your life expectancy, displaying it front-and-centre, along with the local time. Our own Luke Benedictus chose to improve his wretched COVID lockdown days by reviewing a watch that counts down the rest of your days to the second – yikes. Time and tide indeed waits for no man.

Konstantin Chaykin Green Halloween

Should you not be worried about the prospects of death, whether your own or those you love, mostly because you’re swimming in oodles of cash, Konstantin Chaykin’s bronze-cased Green Halloween may be the perfect spooky accessory for you. Supposedly rejecting the stereotypical orange and black colourway of the holiday, the Russian watchmaker employs a mostly green aesthetic, referencing turnips, the original root vegetables used for carving jack-o’-lanterns.

ArtyA Death is Calling Minute Repeater Tourbillon

ArtyA is no stranger to creating memento mori-inspired pieces, the latest of which is the piece unique Death is Calling Minute Repeater Tourbillon. Apart from the technical achievement of combining a cathedral gong-like chiming complication with a one minute tourbillon, Artya pride themselves on the hand-engraved dial, complete with 24k gold skull inlaid into the titanium.
