Mark Ronson is Audemars Piguet’s new ambassador, but his collection shows he’s a genuine watch guy

Musician and producer Mark Ronson has just been revealed as Audemars Piguet’s new ambassador. The good news? This isn’t your standard take the-money-and-run celebrity endorsement. The DJ, songwriter and record producer is a genuine watch guy as this peek into his collection reveals.  Better still, ahead of this announcement, Ronson’s go-to wristwear offered stone-cold proof of his genuine affinity with AP.

The “go-to”: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 36mm Champagne Dial Yellow Gold

If you google Mark Ronson, I would say 90% of the time if he’s wearing a watch then it’s his yellow gold 36mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak with a champagne dial. Unfortunately we may have all missed the value boat  when it came to 36mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches. I mean, they are still available for a bit of a steal compared to their modern counterparts, but with celebrities like Justin Bieber and Mark Ronson making these their dominant dailies it is clear the secret is very much out. They’re a great choice, too, because they actually fit wrists really well because Royal Oaks are known to wear a bit larger than their diameters, so the 36mm kind of wears like a 38mm – a sweet spot size.

The “of course he has one”: Rolex Daytona

When you’re coming up in the industry, it makes complete sense that a marker of success would be buying a watch from the Crown. Who doesn’t want a Rolex Daytona if we are being honest. Unless you are being deliberately obtuse, or vehemently hate Rolex for the scarcity of their products, real recognizes real and the Daytona is one of the best chronograph watches ever made.

The “makes sense for a world traveller”: Rolex GMT Master Pepsi

Dressed down on a NATO strap, Ronson appears to be wearing a GMT Master II with aluminum Pepsi bezel. Obviously he has to travel for work, but in this photo it appears to be for leisure. So if you are on vacation, but have a job where you have to be conscious of time in multiple places, it is fitting to have a GMT watch in your collection – especially one as robust as the GMT Master II.

The “now that is really f*****g cool: Piaget Altiplano ref. G0A32172

Of all the watches on this list, this feels like the most fitting for his wrist. The Piaget Altiplano is all about ultra-thin elegance, a classic piece that suits any socialite or celebrity for their more formal events. The diamonds are tastefully incorporated into the G0A32172, with only its bezel perimeter covered and the central medallion of the black dial. Look closely and you’ll notice the vinyl record motif of the dial conveyed by a concentric texture, and where the diamonds are inserted you would normally see a cover sticker displaying the artist/song/album were it an actual record. Really cool and totally appropriate for who Mark is and what he has accomplished. The watch was worn in his Bang Bang Bang music video, alongside a more basic Altiplano as well, but he has been seen wearing it on other occasions too.

The “ambassador spot”: Chopard L.U.C XP

Mark Ronson has appeared to partner with Chopard for various catalogue shoots and red carpet moments, but my favourite he was worn is the Chopard L.U.C XP – a 40mm stainless-steel watch that walks the tightrope of dressy and sporty. Thanks to its brushed silver dial, blue arabics, and blue fabric strap, this 30 metre water-resistant watch works with smart casual and formal wear with its youthful vibe. Flip it over and you have a beautifully decorated in-house micro-rotor caliber L.U.C 96.53-L with 58 hours of power reserve.
