Rihanna revealed to be worth $1.7B, so what is in this new billionaire’s watch collection?
Zach BlassYesterday, Forbes revealed that singer Robyn Fenty, a.k.a Rihanna, is now worth $1,700,000,000 – and it can largely be attributed to her efforts and entrepreneurship outside of music. As a 50% shareholder of the Fenty Beauty, the other 50% notably held by the LVMH group, $1,400,000,000 of her net worth is derived from her beauty brand – with another $270,000,000 attributed to her lingerie company Savage x Fenty. Clearly Rihanna means business, and her efforts to better diversify into cosmetics and clothing have clearly paid off and resonated with consumers worldwide. With these numbers in mind, she has established herself as the world’s wealthiest female musician and second only to Oprah Winfrey as the world’s wealthiest female entertainer. To celebrate this huge milestone in Time+Tide style, we decided to explore what this new billionaire has been wearing on her wrist.
Cartier Panthère de Cartier Medium Yellow Gold
A frequent go-to in her collection, the Cartier Panthère de Cartier Medium Yellow Gold is a hassle-free quartz reference perfect for adding instant elegance to the wrist. Considering Rihanna likely has to run between business meetings, studios, photoshoots, concerts or, heck, even the odd night out, it is nice to have some chic precious metal in your collection from a timeless brand with a timeless dial aesthetic. The Cartier Panthère de Cartier Medium Yellow Gold is a watch that will never go out of style, quintessential Cartier for elegant everyday wear.
Because I know some of you are thinking it, Rihanna has not only been spotted wearing it in photoshoots but in candid moments as well. In fact, she is a known ambassador of a different brand…
Chopard Happy Sport
Rihanna is an ambassador for Chopard, and has previously collaborated with the storied brand on haute jewelry as well as timepieces. Whether or not her Chopard Happy Sport was organically purchased, I think we can all agree she could afford to buy it if she was so inclined. The watch, part of the Happy Sport Joaillerie collection, is covered head to toe in diamonds An automatic, the 36mm white gold Happy Sport is 30 metres water-resistant so it is perhaps a bit risqué that Rihanna can be seen in the image at the top of this story wearing the watch in the pool. Then again, total billionaire flex.
Rolex Day-Dates
Her collection is actually predominantly Rolex pieces, including a yellow gold Datejust 36 with a champagne dial, a two-tone mother of pearl Datejust as well, and other Datejust as well. But our two favorites are her Day-Date watches. She was spotted court-side wearing a Rolex Day-Date 118205 in Everose gold, a configuration notably outfitted on an Oyster bracelet instead of a President.
Rihanna has also been spotted wearing a Day Date 36 reference in classic yellow gold with a champagne dial. Depending on the photograph it may be an older reference pre coronet between Swiss Made, but nonetheless the watch in any configuration is emblematic of prosperity, success and, most of all, class.
Patek Philippe Nautilus
I mean, did we all really expect Patek Philippe not to grace this list. To her credit, Rihanna isn’t just wearing any Nautilus watch. She can be seen above armed with the 5908/1R, a rose gold flyback chrongraph 40.5mm in diameter and a sporty slender 12.5mm thick. The chronograph is super clean in its layout, packing all relevant information into the sub-dial at 6 – which includes an inner 12 hour elapsed hours register with corresponding longer hand and an outer 60-minute elapsed minutes scale. Super easy to read, super easy to use, it is absolute horological hotness on the wrist – classic meets complicated.
Honorable mention: Piaget Polo makes guest appearance in her Take a Bow music video
Eleven years ago, in her music video for her hit single Take a Bow, Rihanna was styled with a now discontinued version of the Piaget Polo. The 38mm watch in yellow gold maintains some of the design cues of the original watch introduced in 1979. The polished stripes of gold that run across the bracelet and case, briefly broken up by the dial, were elements of a distinctly Piaget aesthetic and to this day if you visit a Piaget boutique you will notice the cases and drawers in the store all have pull tabs designed in homage of this look. True to Piaget form, the GOA27700 was slender with presence – strong tri-Arabics and sharp dauphine hands creating a balance between sporty and elegant.
