Molly-Mae Hague’s watch collection makes me want to go on Love Island

“The ick”. This is an expression I would never have known had I not consumed a particular guilty pleasure of mine: Love Island. The show has taken the world by storm over the last few years, with various spin-offs around the world. But of all the versions of the show out there – USA, Australia, Sweden and more – the best by far is the original UK version. As is often the case with many reality shows, the participants can become quite famous overnight, racking up thousands of followers on social media. In some cases, they also manage to leverage their fame and notoriety to create successful businesses and careers beyond the show. One contestant who certainly made the most of her time on the show is Molly-Mae Hague, who came second in her season of the show three years ago with her boyfriend Tommy Fury  – a British boxer who is the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. While she and Tommy did not win the £50,000 grand prize, the show was certainly a launchpad for her current ventures.

With 6.2m followers on Instagram, she’s become the CEO of the UK’s top self-tanning brand (Filter by Molly-Mae), and the creative director of online fashion brand PrettyLittleThing. In short, she has definitely worked hard to maximise her momentum from the show. According to the Daily Star, Molly-Mae can rake in £13,000 per post on her social media account, and she received a seven figure deal from PrettyLittleThing. So, with her officially being a member of the millionaire’s club, it is not a huge surprise that she has been spotted rocking three heavy-hitting timepieces. Interestingly, based on her Instagram profile she has extensive honeymoon periods with her watches – wearing them for months at a time before a new timepiece hits her wrist.

Not too long after the wrap of Love Island Series 5, Molly-Mae’s Instagram is flooded with shots where a 37mm stainless-steel Royal Oak, with a ruthenium dial and diamond set bezel, can be seen on her wrist. Aside from the diamond bezel, the watch has a monochromatic stealth appeal. While not a “fashion watch” the aesthetic is definitely fashionable, and the prestige of the brand and alluring light play of the model understandably drew her to the timepiece.

The “green gold” Rolex Daytona has become a highly sought after timepiece, its hype and demand soaring in the wake of John Mayer’s testimony to the watch during his second Talking Watches. Molly-Mae extensively wore the watch in the months leading up to her joining PrettyLittleThing, and she can be seen in the post above rocking the precious Daytona on the day she announced she’d become the brand’s Creative Director. While I am too afraid to stack jewellery next to my own watches, she pairs what appears to be a tone-matching gold charm bracelet with green four-leaf clovers. So as far as stacking goes, the fashionable businesswoman definitely knows how to pair a bracelet well with a watch.

Recently, Molly-Mae has started her honeymoon with the Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 7118/1200R. She joins the ranks of Zendaya, another notable sporter of the reference, wearing the 35.2mm rose gold Nautilus in every post where her watch is visible since the above shot in October of 2021. The softer more curvy dial of the 7118 references may have made some male buyers pause before trying their luck with the smaller automatic watch, but it became quickly apparent that, like the now discontinued 5711, it is not a watch simply anyone can get at retail. But as Molly-Mae has clearly found out, fame and money tend to open certain doors.
