Hamilton’s digital darling has a new green display

Borna Bošnjak

First released in a gold and red variant echoing the 1970s original, the PSR has seen numerous iterations over the last two years. We covered two blacked-out models at the start of the year, one of which had close ties to another reboot – the Matrix franchise. The new Hamilton PSR with a green hybrid display adopts a brushed stainless-steel case, and pairs it with a retro green colour for the numerals.

Unlike the original Pulsar, Hamilton is now using a hybrid display, combining LED and OLED technology. This allows the wearer to see the time at all times, rather than relying on the press of the pusher, albeit in a dim state. In bright environments, a single button press will boost the brightness of the display significantly, while another press will bring up the running seconds. The new green display reminds you of the one found on the PSR MTX limited edition, as other PSR models generally feature red displays.

The first time I got my hands on a PSR, I was immediately surprised by the quality of finish on the case and bracelet. Not only is the brushed finish very fine, but the quality of the bracelet and the comfort that its oval links provide excel, even at the A$1,175 price. The sapphire crystal covering the display also has pleasant facets cut into the edges, sitting proud of the rest of the case. Size-wise, the PSR measures in at 40.8mm across, with a very compact 45.5mm lug-to-lug due to the integrated bracelet. It is fairly tall at 13.3mm, but any potential top heaviness is balanced by the bracelet.

Hamilton does not specify the type of quartz movement they use for the PSR, though numerous customer reports state accuracy perfectly in-sync with an atomic clock after months of use. Way to go, Hamilton! Still, would be cool to know exactly what kind of digital module is hiding beneath that caseback.
