FRIDAY WIND DOWN – The Sex, Crime & Russell Crowe Edition

Luke Benedictus

This week’s wind down comes from an unfamiliar voice. Right now, Nick is on holiday and reportedly sunning himself by a pool in Noosa wearing his infamously skimpy trunks and sipping a neon-blue cocktail. So I’m stepping into the breach to fill you in on a rather eventful week.

Russell Crowe Cinderella Man Rolex Submariner

The main news: we accidentally copped a stern telling-off from Russell Crowe. To be fair, this wasn’t entirely our fault. We’d spotted a Rolex Submariner for sale that purportedly belonged to the actor. It had “Cinderella Man” engraved on the caseback alongside Rusty’s initials and seemed consistent with the actor’s habit of buying watches to commemorate the filming of specific movies. Andrew reached out to Russell to confirm the watch’s provenance was 100% legit. But after receiving no response, after a couple of days we ran the story.

Like most wildly successful men, Russell Crowe is, of course, an avid Time+Tide reader. When he saw our story, he promptly issued a Tweet:

Andrew duly replied, explained what had happened and corrected our editorial post. This exchange sparked what looks like a budding bromance between the pair, complete with footy banter about Richmond’s game with the Bulldogs.

Consider yourself duly warned and have a great weekend.

Luke

Although several years ago, the great man did talk exclusively to Time+Tide about a bunch of watches he was selling in his “Art of Divorce” auction. Get the lowdown on what’s quickly becoming the most updated story in our history. READ MORE

Public Service Announcement 2:
Las Vegas ‘prostitute’ with lion tattoo stole Rolex and Audemars Piguet watches from hotel rooms

Russell Crowe Cinderella Man Rolex Submariner

We ran this story to alert readers to the fact that, after accompanying two men to their Las Vegas hotel rooms, Windy Rose Jones, allegedly stole the men’s expensive watches in what police believe are prostitution-related thefts.

Since that story broke, Windy has been arrested in another stolen watch caper. This time, she’s suspected of stealing a $US45,000 Rolex from a man during a night of drinking on the Vegas Strip. The main take-home here is don’t, er, take home any attractive women with lion tattoos to your Vegas hotel room (if it’s any other member of the big cat family then you’re probably fine). READ MORE
