It’s universally agreed (by watch lovers at least) that Grand Seiko (Seiko’s high-end brand) is one of the best-value propositions in mechanical watchmaking. Their quality and durability is comparable with Rolex. But they remain a relatively unknown niche brand outside of Japan. This article on Deployant explores why.

Seems like every week we run a story on the Apple Watch. It’s the news story that keeps on giving. But the big newsflash here Walter Cronkite is that we’ve finally found something we actually like! Say hello to hands-free Tinder. Pair the Apple Watch’s heart-rate monitor with Tinder and you’ve got a (concept) app that removes swiping from the equation by matching you up based on whether or not your heart rate goes up. There are so many ways this could go wrong it’s not funny (well, maybe a little funny). But we definitely see the potential in a version where you could save yourself having to double tap on Insta by basing your ‘likes’ on your heart rate. Or maybe an e-commerce app that makes your next watch purchase based purely on palpitations? Wait, are we drunk? It’s Friday!

Kickstarter is great. No arguments there. But it’s also weird. Take for example this hybrid watch/Apple Watch adaptor. Because who doesn’t want a watch made with bits of old whiskey barrels that allows you to slot an extra Apple Watch onto the strap?

Well, it turns out lots of people do, because this guy has smashed its $25k goal with a whopping 247,000. KICKSTARTER MADNESS. In related news – people are idiots.
