Offset showers Cardi B with six Chanel bags and “$375K” Audemars Piguet for Valentine’s Day
Zach BlassWhen you think Valentine’s Day gifts, normally you’d think of flowers, chocolates or jewellery. But American rapper Offset, member of the Migos, does not hold back when it comes to gift-giving – luxury is his love language. For example, back in July we reported one of our youngest and most extravagant watchspots ever on the site when he gifted his daughter Kulture a $250K+ Richard Mille watch for her 3rd birthday. So we weren’t surprised to hear that Entertainment Tonight reported earlier this week that Offset showered Cardi B with lavish gifts for Valentine’s Day, involving a scavenger hunt which yielded her six new Chanel bags and a “$375,000 USD” Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked in frosted white gold.
The Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked has become the new “it” watch within the rap community, UK rappers Dave and Stormy are both known to own multiple pieces in various metals and materials. Cardi’s new watch is the 37mm version, a tamer more wrist-friendly size for smaller wrists. It is every bit as much watch as its larger sibling, boasting an intricately openworked and finished calibre 3132 (the same calibre in the 41mm Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked watches) that shows off Audemars Piguet’s mastery of watchmaking techniques.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Cardi B can be heard in video clips posted to her Instagram stories exclaiming to her husband Offset that, in a good way, he went overboard.
“Saved the last for the best,” Offset tells his wife in one clip.
“That’s too much!” she replies.
“No, it ain’t. Never,” he says.
“This is amazing! Thank you, babe. He wants me to get more into watches,” Cardi shares.
I find it a tad hilarious that Offset wants to get Cardi “more into watches” considering she already has an enviable collection of many unobtanium references, which we have covered previously on-site.
But the aspect of all this that made me chuckle the most was this screen cap of Cardi’s Instagram story, where Offset can be seen holding his phone flexing the secondary value of the watch by displaying a listing on Chrono24 – notably via the app, not through the iPhone’s Safari browser. This is, of course, where Entertainment Tonight got the headlining valuation for their story. While it may have been a harmless mistake on his part, rather than a miscalculated strategic move, the watch Offset has pulled up on his Chrono24 app is actually the larger 41mm version – the larger black outer minutes track and blackened calibre the clear tell.
The 37mm variant he gifted Cardi has a very stepped outer minutes track that is brighter in tone, its colour closer in line with the tone of the white-gold case. This tweak in aesthetic allows the watch case to be of a smaller diameter. Also, the openworked calibre 3132 in the 37mm watch is rhodium-plated instead of blackened – which I personally think better displays the glistening chamfers performed on all of the openworked movement components.
While he may have picked the most expensive listing to win brownie points with his wife, the majority of the listings are posted as “price upon request” with others ranging between $240K – $375K USD. In Offset’s defence there are not many listings up for the 37mm configuration. The frosted white gold models are listed as “price upon request”, with the only comparable and cleaner indication of Chrono24 value being the non-frosted rose gold variant listed on average at $222,500 USD.
But this is being a bit too harsh and nit-picky. Ultimately, someone who had the means spoiled the woman he loves and I think we can all get behind that. So whether he paid the retail price of $92,400 USD, or whatever it truly commands on the secondary market, Offset went big for his 2022 Valentine’s Day celebration.
