What’s the story behind your Baume & Mercier Chronograph?

Since I was about 18 I have always been quite the watch enthusiast. My taste back then consisted more of Pulsar, Timex and Seiko. Oh, and this one hideous gold nugget Geneva watch that I believe fell off my wrist one day and I incidentally ran over it with my car. Today as a seasoned U.S. Soldier that had become partial to wearing G Shocks I had a longing for something to reflect my love for horology. After doing research on many brands, I came across this Baume & Mercier on a watch forum. It was simple in design yet stylish to wear for nearly every occasion. After a few conversations with the owner of the watch we discovered that we both had served in the same area of Germany (different times) but we had a lot to talk about. When I was ready to purchase the watch he lowered the price because of our Military affiliation, and to date I still can’t thank him enough.

When – did you get this watch?

I purchased this watch about a year ago after deciding that I needed more substance to my watch collection.

Why – do you love this watch?

I love this watch because it is timeless. And just as any father or grandfather I hope to pass this on to my son who will in turn pass it on to his son and so on. The Baume is my favorite piece so it seemed only fitting to wear it at my sons high school graduation. My son vaguely shares a passion for watches, but the fact that he makes an attempt is good enough for me.

What does this watch say about who you are?

The wristwatch is an extension of ones self and should reflect the owner. My watch reflects on my appreciation for longstanding tradition. My son who is graduating in the background of the photo has also enlisted to serve in the Military just as I am and his grandfather has before me. This watch says I am traditional..and very classy.

If you could buy any watch tomorrow what would it be, and why?

Hands down it would be a Rolex Explorer I Reference 1016, nothing flashy or cutting edge, nothing more than a watch with pure utilitarian purpose.
