  • Brellum ditches the ‘panda’ aesthetic for this black DLC take on their retro-modern Pandial chronograph
  • Its highly modified Valjoux 7750 movement also features a unique black rotor
  • It’s limited to 33 pieces – which represents 11% of Brellum’s 2023 output

As you may have guessed, the Brellum Pandial’s moniker references its tri-compax ‘panda’ layout, a classic chronograph aesthetic. But when is a Pandial not a Pandial? When it’s fully black, of course. The Pandial LE.5 DD DLC Full Black Chronometer builds upon the Pandial range, giving it a stealthy new look without sacrificing usability.

The Pandial LE.5 DD DLC Full Black Chronometer’s dedication to black would make any goth proud, with a case, dial, subdials, tachymeter bezel, pushers, crown and strap options all outfitted in black. The case, hardware and steel bracelet option are indeed black DLC-coated stainless steel, while the dial is crafted from black opaline. (A ‘Nebur-Tec’ black integrated fabric strap is also available for the watch.)

Small details punctuate the black, such as azuraged subdials at 12 and 6 o’clock plus diamond-cut indices and plenty of Super-LumiNova. The highly boxed crystal also provides a degree of visual flair without compromising its Stygian appearance.

Under the hood beats the Brellum BR-750-2, a highly modified version of the esteemed Valjoux 7750 base. COSC-certified and finished to a high standard with perlage, côtes de Genève and blued screws, it also features a black DLC-coated, individually numbered automatic rotor.

To my eye, this Pandial’s all-black colour scheme means it looks more like an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch than a Rolex Daytona ‘Panda’, or indeed, a black ceramic IWC Pilot’s Chronograph, especially when you consider its subdial layout and day-date window at 3 o’clock (a flattering comparison).
