Breitling makes a wrist-cameo in season 2 of The Bear

Zach Blass

With all of the streaming platforms at our disposal, there is a fair bit of comfort-food garbage shows for us all to guiltily binge. But, when people ask me what is a good show, a genuinely good show, to watch, FX on Hulu’s The Bear is definitely at the top of the list. For many of you, this is probably not a shock. The restaurant-centered dark comedy garnered very favourable reviews upon its debut and it became a fan-favourite for many. The show, while touching on issues like mental health and death, largely focuses on the behind-the-scenes efforts in kitchens worldwide and the hilarious interpersonal relationships between various members of the staff. For those concerned, I have yet to finish the second season of The Bear. So, it is impossible for me to spoil any conclusions of its long-awaited second season. But, I do feel comfortable spoiling a wrist-cameo that happens right at the jump in the season two premiere episode. If you look closely at actor Oliver Platt’s wrist, you will catch him wearing a Breitling Premier B25 Datora 42 Copper.

The wrist-cameo occurs in the back half of the episode, as Platt’s character Cicero hears out Carmy and his staff’s proposal around the finances of their restaurant. With allusions to a bit of a mobster background, there is an intimidating presence to his character. But, it was a welcome surprise to catch the Datora 42 Copper on his wrist. It is quite random, but the randomness also means it does not feel forced or sponsored in anyway. Frankly, I wonder if the Breitling is Platt’s own personal watch.

When it was first released back in 2021, its strategic debut ahead of Watches & Wonders really stole the spotlight a bit. The Breitling Premier B25 Datora 42 Copper made waves due to its stunning collector-beloved salmon dial and the proximity of its aesthetic towards grail-status references like the Patek Philippe 5270P. The platinum-cased Patek Philippe 5270P retailed for $205,810 USD before its recent discontinuation, while this Breitling Premier B25 Datora 42 Copper retails for US$14,000 USD – astronomically less money.
