Certina are the definition of an underdog brand, with many of their Swatch Group relatives outshining them in marketing and general fanbase adoration. But, with a closer look, Certina have really carved out their own corner of the affordable Swiss market. A melding of slick style and vintage inspirations allows them to weave their way through a variety of styles with ease, creating a versatile brand identity that can find a home with a lot of watch enthusiasts. For this new video, we got our hands on a small selection of Certina’s watches to remind you what they’re all about.

Some of the sportiest options are the Certina DS Super PH500M and the DS Action, both intense watches with 43mm diameters and diving at their hearts. The DS Super PH500M matches a 500m water resistance to a silky blue sunburst, while the DS Action plays things a little less extravagantly with 300m water resistance and a simple black dial. Both are powered by the Powermatic 80 movement, which has become a modern classic thanks to its 80-hour power reserve and renowned reliability.

On the elegant side of the spectrum, the Certina DS-1 and the DS PH200M show very different approaches to watch design. The DS-1 is a perfectly daily wearer with acute charm, thanks to the petite, sculpted lugs and sharp indices. The large date display makes for a grand statement, and the deep sunburst dial rounds things off nicely. The Certina DS PH200M is an evident homage to the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, but this time given a velvety mother of pearl dial in black that evokes the sea’s surface at night.

Directly referencing a model from Certina’s history, the DS Chronograph Automatic 1968 is a modern recreation of the Certina Argonaut. It’s quite a rare model, and the new version brings its quirks into the world with fresh refinement. The monolithic case wears surprisingly well with a lug-to-lug of 47mm, and the blocky look represents its era perfectly. For more details and pricing, be sure to check out the video.
