The Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba Syroco celebrates a boat set to break the sailing speed record

Borna Bošnjak

Hamilton is no stranger to daring exploits, whether that be in the sea, skies or the silver screen. Last year, the Swatch Group member announced their partnership with Syroco, a company looking to create a wind-powered vessel capable of reaching tremendous speeds while sailing across the water. Fast-forward to now and Syroco has developed their speedcraft, preparing to break the sailing speed record, and Hamilton has a watch to commemorate the partnership – the Khaki Navy Scuba Syroco.

Maritime motifs

A blue and white colour combination is a classic option for a dive watch, and Hamilton makes plentiful use of both, while throwing in a dash of orange. The sharp 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock indices match the dauphine hands, while the rest of the indices are printed rectangles. To avoid an overly plain dial, Hamilton prints a pseudo-crosshair, giving the Khaki Navy Scuba Syroco a sector-like appearance. This detail is interrupted by the appearance of a pesky 4.30-positioned, white date window on an otherwise marine blue dial.

Buff proportions

Hamilton opted to use the 40mm, stainless-steel case variant of the Khaki Navy Scuba for this collaboration, which already has plenty of wrist presence due to the long, sculpted lugs, yet remains fairly thin at 12.95mm. The lugs flow into integrated crown guards that fully shield the knurled crown that screws down, giving the watch 10 bar of water resistance. The two-tone colour scheme of the bezel helps keep track of dive times, while the sapphire crystal ensures a rugged quality.

A watch like this is sure to be well-suited for multiple straps, which Hamilton supports by making the lug width 20mm. The included rubber strap matches the dial colour and is finished in a stainless-steel buckle.

Swatch group power

Ticking behind the caseback that denotes this special edition via engraving is the H-10 movement, which is Hamilton’s version of Swatch Group’s ubiquitous Powermatic 80. It offers 80 hours of power reserve and the anti-magnetic properties of a Nivachron balance spring.
