Is this the latest gadget from Stark Enterprises? Nah, it’s The Skull from HYT.

Please excuse us if we take a very brief break from our SIHH programming (you can be sure we’ll be back next week with a vengeance), but this guy deserves to be seen. It’s the latest piece from the masters of hydromechanical horology – HYT.

Still looks mean in green. Note the right eye is power reserve and the left is seconds. No minutes to be seen though.

Their latest watch is simply titled The Skull, and it’s limited to 50 pieces In green and 25 in red. We suspect any attempt to go with another name (cough-Iron Man-cough) would have had Marvel’s lawyers knocking on their door. But no one would argue with how downright awesome this giant, 51mm watch looks. Just look at it.

But what’s perhaps even more cool than how this watch looks is how it works. Now, you see that tube around the skull – it’s a capillary tube filled with a liquid that moves to indicate the hours which is nifty. Sadly the watch doesn’t indicate minutes, but really if you own this watch do you care about the minutes?

Good looking movement too – note how the valves at the bottom are integrated into the skull design.

It might not tell you the minutes, but it does have a power reserve indicator in the skulls right eye, and seconds in the left. So that’s something. On a technical level we’re very impressed that the movement architecture (particularly the bellows which move the liquid around the watch) has been shaped to add to the skull like look of the watch, and we’ve got to say as far as skull watches go,the HYT Skull is in our top 3. Yes, we’ve got a list.
