This new Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024 Collection marks 100 days until the opening of the Olympic Games

  • Omega’s second release for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is a white and gold Speedmaster Chronoscope.
  • It’s extremely versatile thanks to there being no mention of the Olympics anywhere on the dial.
  • It’s powered by the hand-wound Calibre 9908 with METAS certification, which is covered by a solid caseback depicting the Paris 2024 Marianne logo.

At the tail end of last year, Omega released its most elegant reference of the Seamaster 300M to date as a commemoration of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The Swiss giant has been the Official Timekeeper of the Games since 1932, and some of its wildest releases have been Olympic limited editions. The Seamaster 300M Paris was gorgeous, but the new Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024 really runs with that white and gold colour scheme in a whole new way.

Wrapping up a diver in sophisticated style can only go so far, because the utility and bulk of the design is never really hidden. The Speedmaster Chronoscope on the other hand is a far more elevated platform for the Paris 2024 colours. Snail-dial chronographs have a history of dressiness, especially during the mid-‘40s to early ‘50s when military watch styles were given solid gold cases and delicate details. Even though this rendition in a 43mm case is definitively a modern sports watch, there’s more of a precedent set for fancier styles.

The 43mm case is available in stainless steel, embracing a light-hearted two-tone charm, or solid 18k Moonshine gold for all-out luxury decadence. The lug-to-lug length is only 48.6mm, which tames its hefty diameter, and the 13mm thickness is thanks to the fact it’s manual-winding, and not automatic. The weights vary pretty drastically depending on the material and choice of strap or bracelet, ranging from 93 grams for the steel model on leather, up to a whopping 240 grams for the solid gold watch and bracelet. All of them have a water resistance of 50 metres, and solid casebacks with an engraving of Marianne, who is the logo for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and a symbol of the French Republic.

This may not be the most obvious choice of watch for Olympic collectors, because it doesn’t have any hint of Olympic ties from the dial side. However, this makes it a perfect release for people who may want to wear the watch without any sporting connotations. The panda dial configuration is already attractive enough on its own, but the addition of gold highlights brings it to a new level of class. Behind the dial is the Omega Calibre 9908/9909, which is a manually-wound chronograph with running seconds, and a combined hour and minutes counter at 3 o’clock. It’s METAS-certified as a Master Chronometer, guaranteeing accuracy within 0/+5 seconds per day. It has a power reserve of 60 hours, a beat rate of 4Hz, a co-axial escapement, and magnetic resistance up to 15,000 Gauss.
