Bamford Watch Department, which basically created the customised watch market, has long been taking Swiss watches with tamer sensibilities and giving them wild and wonderful new looks. Starting with blacking out Rolex watches with DLC and PVD coatings, to later inking a deal with LVMH in 2018 as their exclusive customiser, Bamford Watch Department creatively pushes existing designs further with new materials, colours, and textures we would not otherwise see on them without BWD’s expansive imagination.
That being said, the Franck Muller Crazy Hours is… well… already a crazy concept. The watch is known for its chaotic complication: a disordered jumping hours indication that has the hour hand leaping across the dial each hour in a seemingly random way. While the chaotic complication certainly adds character to an otherwise classic and classy tonneau-shaped design, Bamford Watch Department added further character and craziness, literally, by bringing beloved Peanuts characters Snoopy and Woodstock into the mix for a 20-piece limited edition in 2021. Now, the three-way team-up returns for a second round with the new Franck Muller x BWD Crazy Hours Arctic Snoopy Limited Edition.
Previously, Bamford Watch Department gave the stainless steel Crazy Hours a rather blacked-out Snoopy treatment in 2021. For this second limited edition, we once again have the Cintrée Curvex case style. So, dimensionally speaking, this sequel follows suit with a size of 39.6mm in diameter and 11.8mm thick. But this time we have the inverse aesthetically, with an arctic white colour scheme that includes a white PVD-treated titanium case, a fully luminescent white dial with a stamped guilloche pattern and 25 layers of lacquer, and a hand-sewn white nylon strap to round out the white-hot monochromatic feel.
Inside the Franck Muller x BWD Crazy Hours Arctic Snoopy Limited Edition is the automatic MVD FM 2800-CHR movement with 42 hours of power reserve. Unfortunately, while decorated with Geneva striping, circular graining, bevelling, and blued screws, the movement remains hidden beneath a solid titanium caseback. As we have come to expect from Bamford Watch Department, the Franck Muller x BWD Crazy Hours Arctic Snoopy Limited Edition comes in very elaborate and on-brand packaging with a Swiss-made Igloo doghouse box in white with black trim and yellow accents of a perched Woodstock. The original collaboration proved to be a success, with the 20 pieces of the limited edition long sold out. This time around the limited edition run will be more than double, with 45 pieces up for grabs from Bamford Watch Department beginning November 27.
