Australia’s love of TAG Heuer gets recognised with a limited edition Carrera Tourbillon (live pics)

Australia has long had a love affair with TAG Heuer. Australia roughly ranks as the 15th biggest global market for watches, but when it comes to TAG Heuer international sales, however, we shoot up the table to 4th – and for many years, TAG Heuer’s Sydney boutique was the brand’s #1 boutique in the world. It’s a brand that deeply resonates with Aussies and ranks as one of the most successful luxury brands Down Under.
In recent years, TAG Heuer’s Dubai boutique has overtaken Sydney as the top seller: a result of Australia’s strict COVID-era lockdowns throttling both tourist and local business. However, the brand’s recently renovated their Sydney store – found on the corner of Pitt and Market Streets in the heart of the CBD – and have also just unveiled an Australian exclusive limited edition based on their Carrera Tourbillon, to prove that they haven’t forgotten about Australia and its love for all things TAG.
Cased in titanium, it features a dark blue colour scheme that’s meant to evoke the water of the iconic Sydney Harbour, with an open dial featuring blued elements contrasted by rhodium-plated hands, indices and chronograph counters. Other blue elements include its tourbillon cage, which is crafted from carbon fibre, as well as its column wheel, automatic rotor, rubberised crown and fixed ceramic tachymetre bezel.
Speaking of its tourbillon, its Calibre Heuer 02 Tourbillon is one of the more accessible Swiss-made tourbillon movements on the market – which is not to undersell how nice it is. TAG Heuer opted for a 45mm case for this model, in order to fit that tourbillon, which takes up plenty of dial real estate at 6 o’clock. The movement is COSC-certified and features a robust 65-hour power reserve.
For another touch of luxury, the TAG Heuer Carrera Tourbillion Australian Limited Edition comes mounted on a hybrid rubber and alligator strap. The titanium folding clasp features on-the-fly micro-adjustment, with ribbing on the strap’s rubber underside providing plenty of grip.

Australia might be home to some of the most passionate watch collectors on the planet, but as a market, we’re usually overlooked when it comes to limited editions, so it’s great to see this TAG Heuer, especially considering Australia’s affinity for the brand.
