Today is Melbourne Cup day, the race that stops a nation. And aside from being a public holiday in Victoria, it’s a day where it is practically demanded that we show you a suitably birdcage-ready watch. And they don’t get much more bling-tastic than that De Ville Central Tourbillon from Omega. While most tourbillons are placed at the periphery of the movement, Omega put it front and centre, rotating every 60 seconds and keeping the beat in the co-axial movement (the Calibre 2637 FYI).

In most watches of this calibre the movement would be the star of the show, but on this bad boy it has to compete with the 38.7mm platinum case encrusted with 289 diamonds which come in at just over 10 carats in weight.

There’s an indescribable presence in watches that we call ‘wrist factor’ – it’s the undefinable element that you can’t capture in words or pictures. And while this Omega De Ville Central Tourbillon clearly isn’t for the shy, its wrist presence looks to exceed all current scales or charts.

This watch is an extremely limited edition – three will be produced and will be available through Omega boutiques.
