What’s the story behind this watch?

This was a combined Christmas, Engagement, Birthday and Valentines watch from my partner (and that was before I managed to convert her into a fellow watch obsessive). I think she dawned on the idea of having a timepiece to mark important milestones and when she saw that look on my face when I first saw the SBGR061, she knew it was the right watch for me at that point of time.

When – did you get this watch?

I purchased it at a Jeweller in Sydney – it was in the Christmas sales and I was heading overseas, so I picked it up at a very attractive price.

Where – has this watch been?

It has been with me for the past year as a daily wearer and been with me everywhere on my overseas trip, roadtrips around Australia, and a few watch enthusiast meet-ups in both Sydney and Melbourne.

Why – do you love this watch?

Versatility. It works like a charm to have it on both the leather and NATO due to the cream ivory dial with a flame-blued second hand and a simple face. Movement and polishing is top notch with all Grand Seikos. This would definitely be staying with me for a long time because of its timelessness and might be a heirloom piece in the years to come!

What does this watch say about who you are?

The watch totally reflects who I am with its principles of design and quality of execution from Grand Seiko. I appreciate timeless designs, exquisitely executed material finishings, and a high level of technically in the things I buy on a daily basis. Oh and of course, at a great price.

If you could buy any watch tomorrow, what would it be – and why?

For my next watch be it tomorrow or the next few months, it’d definitely be a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classique as both me and the fiance have agreed on this timeless iconic watch as a marriage watch. You really can’t go wrong with a design that has been around for more than 80 years and be relatively unchanged. The Reverso is a unisex watch so we could both enjoy it for the years to come, and I am sure she would be the one dominating its wrist time.
