Worn & Wound’s WindUp Watch Fair returns to Chicago for 2024
Zach BlassThis weekend in Chicago, from Friday July 12th to Sunday July 14, at Venue West 221 N Paulina Street, Worn & Wound’s WindUp Watch Fair will be back in town.
Completely free to visit, Worn & Wound’s touring WindUp Watch Fair has long been a fantastic touch point for watch geeks and newbies alike to discover a wide range of more approachable watchmaking brands. Adding further intrigue, many of the brands and exhibitors participating are harder to find in the metal – offering a rare moment for watch fans to experience their wares first-hand.
Aside from being able to visit exhibitor stands, there will also be a ton of panels such as a live The Grey NATO x Worn & Wound podcast, and a sponsored happy hour. But one event in particular deserves a loud shout out from our end. Of course, Chicago is well-known for being a pizza destination in the USA (even if my New Yorker sensibilities dismiss their deep dish style as casserole) – but the most attractive pizza pie in town will be our very own collaboration with Studio Underd0g.
Remember, these watches are strictly available hand-delivered. You can only purchase these watches by meeting Studio Underd0g founder Richard Benc or our very own Andrew – or visiting the Time+Tide Melbourne Discovery Studio, which is certainly not an everyday opportunity if you don’t live in Australia. The Pizza Party will be held at the Worn & Wound WindUp Watch Fair on July 13 at 17:00.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Watch meme of the week: “What’s the deal with watches?”

Men have long accused their partners of taking too long to get ready for a night out, but oh how the tables do turn when a WIS faces the challenge of deciding which timepiece to slap onto their wrist for a watch event or fair.
Wristshot of the week: “She’s my cherry pie!”

#NWA, my first TAG Heuer! This cherry-red dialled Carrera, limited to 600 pieces, caught my eye when it first launched at Watches and Wonders 2022 – I vividly remember Andrew and I fawning over it during our shoot. After years of it haunting me, the painfully lingering what-if, I managed to find one up for grabs at a great price. I love the sans-TAG branding, which I believe TAG Heuer has not done since 2022 and no longer will, and the rich red sunburst dial perfectly matches my signature Tony Stark shades.
Time+Tide Shop pick of the week: Casio 50th Anniversary Sky & Sea Collection
Since the first Casio was released in 1974 under the Casiotron name, the brand has given rise to numerous models deserving of the iconic moniker, from the cheap and cheerful F91W to the game-changing DW5000C. As 2024 marks 50 years since the very first Casio, it would only be appropriate for the brand to release special-edition models across all of its families, and that’s exactly what Casio did. Unified with a gold and blue colour scheme, gold clasp details and subtle nods to the original Casiotron, we’ve got three models in stock: a G-SHOCK, a Baby-G, and a Casiotron. Read about these models in detail here.
Discover the Casio 50th Anniversary Sky & Sea Collection in the Time+Tide Shop, either online or in our Melbourne Discovery Studio. Price: A$329 (BGA-S290SS-2A 50th Anniversary), A$999 (TRN-50-2A 50th Anniversary), A$1,299 (GMWB5000SS 50th Anniversary)
Our favourite Time+Tide coverage of the week
In the Metal: Marcus explores $680,000 worth of Laurent Ferrier
The In the Metal series typically showcases the behind-the-scenes of Marcus’ world-building for watch shoots, allowing you to be a fly on the wall for (in my opinion), the Martin Scorsese of horological cinematography. This episode of In the Metal is a bit more literal, where Marcus discovers a brand he’s less familiar with for the first time. And it’s not just one watch, rather an astounding $680,000 worth of Laurent Ferrier in one go – enlisting me to help run through them all.
Our first Time+Tide Studio Pop-Up in Sydney was a roaring success – so we’re planning more!
Late last month, we hosted our first official Time+Tide Studio Pop-Up in Sydney. The Time+Tide team has been doing informal trunk shows for years around Australia – touching base with our readers and sharing some of the watches we carry with them – but until now, we’ve never been able to take the full Time+Time Studio experience on the road.
