Wise’s material choices make for a stand-out diver with its ADAMASCUS A8.1 Forged Carbon

When one thinks of microbrands, one of the first things that likely comes to mind is the wide variety of dive watches that are available. Today, although incredibly functional as dive watches, they are now seen more as simply versatile sports watches, culturally acceptable to wear with everything from casual attire to formal wear. That sartorial flexibility can sometimes come at the cost of originality, as a black-dialled, black-bezelled steel watch is likely the most versatile; however, it does arguably lead to an abundance of overtly similar watches on the market at any price point.
So, in 2026, what does it take for a microbrand diver to stand out from the crowded marketplace? That is difficult to quantify and to define universally, but Wise Watches, out of Bangkok, Thailand, has managed to do so. Founded in 2008, Wise has carved out its own niche by utilising unique, often higher-end case materials, including 904L steel, titanium, and Damascus steel. For one of its most recent releases, the Thai-based brand turned to forged carbon to develop the Wise ADAMASCUS A8.1 Forged Carbon Diver.
The case
At this rate, the case’s material is no mystery. The forged carbon case of the A8.1 results in a rugged and very lightweight dive watch. Forged carbon is made by pressing shorter strands of carbon fibre with a plastic resin within a mould. This manufacturing process creates a unique marbling texture, making each watch distinct. The case measures 40.5mm in diameter, 47.75mm lug-to-lug, and 12.15mm thick, including the boxed sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating.
The bezel, crown, and case back are made of grade 2 titanium, which helps keep the overall weight down, and the case back features a sapphire crystal display for the movement. The uni-directional bezel features a ceramic insert, with a lumed triangle at the top. The bezel timing indices are executed via a positive relief with a polished finish against a matte background. While this style of ceramic insert is not the most legible, the lumed triangle keeps the timing bezel usable in low light, facilitating orientation of the minute hand against the lumed triangle. True to dive watch form, the Wise ADAMASCUS A8.1 Forged Carbon is water-resistant to 200 metres.
The dial
The dial for the Wise A8.1 features a wavy woven pattern, giving the dial a pronounced texture that adds visual interest and character. The applied indices are rectangular in shape at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock, with double rectangular indices at 12 o’clock, and shorter pentagonal indices for the remainder. The indices and hands are filled with blue glowing Super-LumiNova. The baton-style minute hand and second hand seem very standard for a dive watch, but the hour hand is a fairly unique design.
It appears to be a baton-style hour hand, with additional sections added on each side. Not only does this create a unique look, but the difference in shape also makes it easier to read the time quickly. The Wise A8.1 is available in seven different dial colours, including a dark grey gradient, blue, light blue, orange, green, light sand brown gradient, and, featured here, red.
The movement
Powering the Wise ADAMASCUS A8.1 Forged Carbon is the Miyota 9015. The Miyota 9015 operates at 28,800 bph, has 24 jewels, and a 42-hour power reserve. For this reference, Wise has sourced a version without the date function, which has the “ghost date” setting position eliminated. It is a small detail, but watch lovers enjoy the absence of a functionless middle crown position.
The strap
For the A8.1 Forged Carbon, Wise supplies the watch with a black FKM rubber strap with curved ends that fit flush with the case, and a black grade 2 titanium pin buckle with the Wise logo. With a 20mm lug width and quick-release spring bars, strap swaps will be a breeze, especially with the additional dial-colour-matching strap that Wise bundles with your purchase.
The verdict
The versatility and durability of dive watches make them easy to love, but the popularity of the category means that there is no shortage of options, and a high chance of seeing them on other people’s wrists. While the tried-and-true dive watches are widely lauded for good reason, they really are not necessary for most people, and seeing variations of the same thing constantly can make a horological life quite dull.
Between the bright-coloured dial options and the use of more unconventional materials, the Wise ADAMASCUS A8.1 Forged Carbon really stands out, presenting a solid option for those looking for something different.
