Winter is Coming: Five Time+Tide Shop straps for the cold

Ricardo Sime

In the northern hemisphere, it’s that time of year again. The rubber straps slowly retreat to your watch drawer, followed closely behind by those metal bracelets. As the temperatures decrease, the feeling of cold steel or stiff rubber on your wrist isn’t at all enjoyable. Thus we turn to the warmth of leather or the all-weather durability of nylon. With that in mind, here are five straps from the Time+Tide Shop that should get you through those frigid months.

Black + Grey Stitch Nylon Sail Cloth

This simple black and grey colour strap will look at home on any sporty black or grey dialled watch in your collection. And since the strap is made of nylon, this is a viable option for our vegan friends out there, too. Finally, you need not put those sun-soaked divers away either as the sail cloth style works perfectly with them. You can find it here.

Light Brown + White Stitch Elegant Leather

Have some vintage dress watches itching to come out of your watch box? Well, this strap would be the perfect companion. The dimples on the strap have darkened tops which gives the strap an aged yet elegant look. The strap is also quite versatile. Cream, white, blue, even green coloured dials will look great on this one. The strap can be found here.

Black Cordovan Leather

When you have a watch with an interesting, intricate and complex dial, you should allow it to shine and not deflect any attention away from it. The best way to do that is to get a strap without contrast stitching. This black on black cordovan strap will not only feel supple on the wrist, but will act as the well-dressed tuxedo standing next to the Met Gala level dress. This strap can be found here.

Brown Cordovan Leather

So nice, it’s on here twice. Here, we have the brown on brown version of the Cordovan Leather. It will accomplish the same highlighting effect as the black. This strap brings me back to when I first starting collecting, where one of the earliest pieces of advice I received was that a black and brown leather strap will go a long way in any collection. The two colours match with almost anything you throw their way.

Red + Cream Stitch Vintage Leather

My final choice from the Time+Tide Shop straps brings a touch of red to the holidays season. It’s loud and beautiful at the same time. It also brings a bit of fun to what at times can seem like a stiff hobby. Pair this with a green dialled watch (like a certain Grand Seiko I’m currently honeymooning with) and you’ve got yourself a bona fide holiday celebration on your wrist. If you’ve got the guts for it, this red strap can be found here.
