Hodinkee’s extraordinary run of sold-out limited edition models only became more of a water-cooler conversation topic when the 250-run of the Oris Divers Sixy-Five Limited Edition for Hodinkee was released, to be sold out in less than 10 minutes. The team generously offer one of their own brand new archive models of the highly sought Limited Edition to the ‘Watch & Act!’ Auction.
Modelled after a design originally created by Oris in 1965, the Divers Sixty-Five model was introduced in 2015 and has become a mainstay of the brand’s heritage collection, offered in a range of sizes, dial designs and bezel materials. The Divers Sixty-Five Limited Edition for Hodinkee pares down the design with a “balance of go-anywhere ability and always-on-your-wrist versatility” as a goal. The real talking points here, apart from the perfectly tuned overall vintage aesthetic — that ‘ghost’ faded grey bezel is just sublime — and the speed at which it was snapped up, is the fact that this is the first Divers Sixty-Five to be manually wound, allowing the case profile to slim down slightly. The Divers Sixty-Five Limited Edition for Hodinkee is fitted on a tapered rivet-style stainless steel bracelet but also comes with a Hodinkee Sedona strap in black.
What we like about it
Andrew – Wow, there are lots of things that are very special about this exact wristwatch. Firstly, it is the first numbered edition from the incredibly quick-to-sell-out Oris Divers Sixty-Five limited edition for Hodinkee. It is numbered #2 out of 250 and comes with the very warm wishes of the entire Hodinkee team. Secondly, this is the only manually wound Oris Divers Sixty-Five model, making it a little slimmer than the standard model. And for me, out of all the Sixty-Fives it has the most vintage charm, care of the faded ‘ghost’ bezel and perfectly tuned vintage lume.
Nick – Yes, this watch was limited to 250 pieces, but there is a very good reason it sold out in under 10 mins. It offers the most articulate blend of vintage design cues alongside contemporary practical concessions we have seen in recent years, producing a watch that feels like a piece with historical significance without worrying if you knock it on a doorknob. A watch for a collector who has seen it all.
James – I want this watch so badly it hurts. I missed out on purchasing it when it was unveiled on Hodinkee’s marketplace last year – which is hardly surprising when you consider that all 250 pieces sold out in less than 10 minutes. Anyway, now Hodinkee is offering up their own example of the 39mm wonder for this amazing cause, and sadly, once again, I’ve already been outbid.
