Holding all this hot new Bulgari – and Gerald Genta – in our hands, from the Aluminium Pepsi to Mickey

Andrew McUtchen

Like we say time and time again, it’s one thing to see a watch in a press release and to see the increasingly unrealistic renders online, noting the multitude of comments from people saying, “I wonder how it really looks?” It’s an entirely different prospect to hold that watch in your hands, and let it do its wonderful three-dimensional thing.

Bulgari are in a top tier of brands whose creations just about always exceed expectations. That could either be an insult to their graphic design team, or a compliment to their watchmakers – it’s really neither, it’s just a statement of fact that no matter how the watches have looked in the renders over the years, they’ve always added a little something on the wrist.

This year, it was a host of “horological hotness” as Zach would say. From the rich blue sunburst and glimmering applied dial elements of the Roma WorldTimer, to the desaturated matt Pepsi tones of the Aluminium GMT, to the playful expression on Mickey’s face on the Gérald Genta comeback piece featuring the world’s most famous mouse – it really catered to all types.

These are Zach, Mike and Elise’s three favourites, but they really only scratch the surface of a collection we’ll be exploring in more detail over the coming weeks. Thanks again for choosing Time+Tide as your trusty source of not-fake watch news – this is all live on the wrist, and coming with unvarnished opinions to accompany them. As for the tone of these videos – and the escalating banter between Mike and Zach… Can you believe these old mates met for the first time in person just two days ago? I don’t believe it, either.
