People often conflate wristwatches and horology as being the same thing. But the latter, in fact, encompasses hundreds more years of history and tradition . The art of luxury clocks, whether for travel or for display on a mantlepiece or desk, is often reserved for lofty Swiss brands who have made significant advancements in clock technology such as Jaeger-LeCoultre, Cartier, or even modern powerhouses like MB&F.  And that’s why the Louis Vuitton Trunk Table Clock is more than just a novelty. It’s a statement that the French fashion house’s vision is much broader than their Tambour series of wristwatches.

Louis Vuitton is one of the best known fashion brands in the world, but when it comes to watchmaking, many people aren’t aware of the horological quality of their output. Thankfully that’s starting to change with several of their watches earning the Geneva Seal – a rarified standard of Swiss watchmaking reserved for the best of the best (think Cartier and Vacheron Constantin among others). Gaining that accolade is particularly impressive given that Louis Vuitton has only been making watches for less than 20 years.

Aimed as a travel piece, the clock in this video is housed within one of Louis Vuitton’s wildly desirable trunk cases featuring the Monogram Eclipse canvas. It captures a sophisticated charm that the brand is known for, with grey colouring that matches the clock’s steel case and sunburst grey dial. Twelve flags can be seen encircling the dial sectors, aiming for an old-world look that also serves to inject a whimsical pop of colour to the design. Of course, the clock is extremely functional too, with a precision quartz movement, 24-hour chapter ring, and clearly legible GMT hand.
