VIDEO: The IWC Big Pilot 43 gives an iconic watch a modern upgrade
Nick KenyonThe IWC Big Pilot is not quite so big anymore. That’s right, the new IWC Big Pilot 43 is now a full 3mm smaller in diameter compared to the previous 46mm generation, but doesn’t lose any of the impact that it has on the wrist. The iconic pilot’s watch has been updated to become more accessible and easier to wear, with additional updates to the movement, straps and a slightly different dial layout.
Ergonomic design is an area that is very often overlooked by watchmakers who sometimes emphasise form a little too heavily over function. In the IWC Big Pilot 43, however, both look to have been considered at length, with a new case size that will sit comfortably on almost all wrists and a visual impression that remains consistent with the DNA of the collection.
Setting the case aside for a moment, the IWC Big Pilot 43 will also be available on a stainless-steel bracelet and a rubber strap for the first time ever. Paired with the new 100m of water resistance that the watch is now guaranteed to, we’ve got a proper sports watch on our hands, that remains faithful to its own history as a pilot’s tool. It’s an exciting step that IWC has made to modernise such an important part of their collection, which is sure to be popular among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
