Spousal approval for watch purchases is a thing. Plain and simple. It’s also, we should add to be responsible, the sign of a healthy and balanced relationship. You want a new watch? You’re going to draw from shared funds to buy it? It’s right and fair that you get the green light from your partner in crime.
While we acknowledge and respect this process, we have also discovered, in our own experience, certain ways to stack the approval process in your favour. One of them is to buy said spouse attractive watches at any opportunity. Including but not limited to Mother’s Day. We have a suggestion that is at a price point favourable to spontaneity. The brand new Undone Urban 34 Killy, which you can buy in our shop now.
This is the first ever ladies piece by Undone, the Hong Kong-based indie watchmaker. And, if you ask me, it is a breath of fresh air in the world of microbrand horology – for too long, indie brands have unashamedly geared their products towards consumers with an XY chromosome. This fetching vintage-toned watch is not just for women in size, it’s also offered with a double length “double tour” style leather bracelet, which really heightens the femininity, and adds another way to wear it.
The new Urban 34 Killy utilises the same aesthetic as Undone’s regular Urban Killy, and features a diminutive 34mm stepped case, which is being made available in either stainless steel or stainless steel with a rose gold PVD coating.
The dial is similarly familiar to the Killy family, and features a creamy off-white base that’s been adorned with a contrasting white and blue pulsometer scale, as well as a red minute track.
The charmingly antiquated aesthetic has been tied-off nicely with a slender blued steel handset, deco-style numerals and two sub-dials, located at 12 and 6 o’clock, which display the date and a 24-hour counter respectively.
And, in typical Undone fashion, those wanting an added layer of personalisation on the dial can also opt to have their zodiac sign printed on the dial.
Behind the deco dial is Seiko’s hard-working, hard-wearing Calibre VH61. This mecha-quartz movement features an aforementioned date complication and 24-hour counter, as well as a sweeping seconds hand function. Like the rest of Undone’s collections, the watch’s caseback can also be personalised with a bespoke written message or even a photo, which is a very nice touch.
The new Urban 34 Killy comes with two leather straps in a choice of seven different colours. One is a regular length, while the other is a wrap-around, “double tour” style. Both bands also feature a quick-release function, which should make strap changes a breeze.
Undone will also donate 10 per cent of every Urban 34 Killy sold to the Global Fund for Women.
