Tudor injects a splash of pink into its cycling variant of the Pelagos FXD Chrono

Zach Blass
  • Tudor has launched a 300-piece limited edition sequel to the Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition.
  • Instead of red accents, the cycling-inspired outer scale and the fabric strap incorporate pink lines.
  • The pink colour is a nod to how the winner of the Giro d’Italia earns the distinction of wearing the Maglia Rosa, or “pink jersey.”

While it’s often uncertain which direction Rolex and Tudor will take next, two things we can always count on from Tudor, as of late, are that it will look to celebrate its partners and find moments to inject a splash of its “daring pink” colourway. We also know that its brand ambassadors are often a vehicle to strategically tease yet-to-be-released watches, so it would be wise to stay tuned to wrists like David Beckham’s. But, amidst the Watches and Wonders dust settling and the known anticipation of its F1-tied novelty, we all somehow did not catch that Beckham may have foreshadowed Tudor’s surprise limited edition launch today. Just a few days after the unveiling of the Black Bay Chrono “Carbon 25”, we now have the Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Pink”.

Now, you might be having a bit of déjà vu as this “new” Pelagos FXD Chrono “Pink” is not very far off from the FXD Chrono Cycling Edition that debuted exactly one year ago today. We once again have a 43mm carbon composite case, 13.2mm thick, 53mm lug-to-lug, and 200 metres water-resistant. A black matte dial and bezel insert are also utilised once again. The only differences are the fact that the Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Pink” is a limited edition of 300 pieces (whereas the Cycling Edition is not a limited edition), the black fabric strap now has a line of colour in its centre, and that the chronograph counters and cycling-inspired outer dial scale are rendered in pink rather than red. The original red was a nod to Tudor red. The pink hue we see today pays tribute to how the winner of the Giro d’Italia, a gruelling race in which cyclists will experience the elevation gain of going up Mt. Everest six times, earns the distinction of wearing the Maglia Rosa, or “pink jersey.”

Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono Pink 2

Despite it not really reinventing the wheel or breaking the cycle, I have no doubt the marketplace will be excited by this release. But, I sadly suspect that the splash of a rarer Tudor colour and its limited edition nature will render the Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono “Pink” as a bit of a hype piece – even if it is not Tudor’s intention to do so. Hopefully, devout watch-wearing cycling fanatics get first dibs on this limited edition. But, as usual, I think we can safely bet the likes of Kevin O’Leary and Mark Wahlberg will be first in the race to score an allocation.
