Tudor does it again with a bright blue Black Bay Chrono

  • “Leaking” their own release on the wrist of Jay Chou and Becks, Tudor finally announces a new Black Bay Chrono.
  • The only change is that a turquoise blue dial now joins the existing pink and powder blue.
  • It’s still a Tudor boutique exclusive, priced at US$5,875.

Perhaps one of the most talked about watches of last year was the eye-catching Tudor Black Bay Chrono Pink that came out in March. Now, Tudor has followed this one up with what they are calling the Flamingo Blue to try and brighten up our January (at least as far as the Northern Hemisphere goes). The release of this watch followed a similar pattern to the pink, with it appearing on a number of Tudor ambassadors’ wrists before any official communication was made, or it being uploaded onto the website. This is becoming more and more of a trend in the industry, leaving those eagle-eyed among us to try and figure out what might be new on a watch.

The Tiffany-toned timer made its debut on the wrist of Taiwanese singer-songwriter and actor, Jay Chou, and then later we saw it appearing on the most famous Tudor ambassador, David Beckham, which all but confirmed that this was a exactly what we all expected it to be.

There is really only one change that has taken place here, and it’s the obvious one. The Flamingo Blue dial seemed to be the perfect pair to the bright pink, although the name might seem a little curious. I don’t remember seeing any blue flamingos in any of my travels, but we can’t deny the colour they’ve gone for (with a strong hint of Tiffany) demands attention. While the brand claims it looks to reflect the waters that flamingos call home, I think these could be a great couples option, or if the standard blue Black Bay Chrono wasn’t quite bright enough for you, then this might be the answer.

The watch will be sold in the same way as the pink version last year, meaning it will be incredibly hard to get hold of, so we could see a similar secondary pricing phenomenon that we witnessed the middle of last year. But only time will tell if this tried-and-tested hype colour will prove to be just as popular as it’s pink older brother. Everything else remains the same about this Black Bay Chrono, with applied luminous markers, black aluminium bezel insert, and running off the MT5813. As with the other colours of the Black Bay Chrono, it comes on Tudor’s five link Jubilee bracelet with the T-Fit micro adjustment inside its folding clasp.
