The Tudor Black Bay 68 introduces a new dimension to the modern classic with a 43mm case

  • The METAS-certified diver will be available with a blue and silver dial and black aluminium bezel.
  • It pays homage to the first year Tudor’s Submariner got the Snowflake hands in 1968, but now in a 43mm size.
  • Spec-wise, it’s consistent with the rest of the Black Bay range, with 200 metres of water-resistance and a Kenissi MT5601-U movement. Price: A$6,990.

If someone had asked you what mid-range luxury watch to buy, chances are high “Black Bay” would’ve been the answer. That formula doesn’t change today, and just becomes a little easier to recommend as the Black Bay 68 brings a new dimension to the collection with a 43mm steel case as part of Tudor’s W&W 2025 releases.

You’ve got a choice of sunburst blue or silver dials that are paired with black aluminium bezel inserts, offering a combination that at the moment doesn’t exist in the remainder of the Black Bay range. Purists will be happy to see the BB68 continue the no-date trend of the collection, also of course retaining the signature Snowflake handset. In this case they’re particularly notable, as the name of the watch, the Black Bay 68, pays homage to when Snowflake hands were first envisioned for the Tudor Submariner, only to enter the brand’s catalogues in 1969.

Other than just some new dial colours, this release is all about the new 43mm size. It’s not so much a new-and-improved version of the Black Bay than just another alternative that’ll suit those looking for a bigger watch. It’s similarly thick to the Black Bay 41 Monochrome from last year at 13.6mm, which is a considerable amount for a watch as big as this, adding more than a millimetre to the likes of the Black Bay 54.

Beating beneath the expectedly sterile caseback is the MT5601, a movement that usually features in the larger Black Bay Bronze, which rather unsurprisingly also comes in at 43mm. It’s as solid of a performer as other Tudor/Kenissi movements have proved to be, offering METAS chronometer certification, a 70-hour power reserve, and a 4Hz beat rate.
