Horological interest these days predominantly circles around wristwatches. But there are plenty of other fascinating timekeeping objects to explore. In the after-glow of the Tokyo Olympics, one avenue worth walking down is the realm of vintage stopwatches, and demand is certainly there judging by the response to a recent event. Under the watchful eye of industry expert Eric Wind, Tracksmith and Wind Vintage collaborated to launch a limited-edition collection of 11 vintage stopwatches – all of which sold out in less than two days!

What may have been a bit niche, which is saying something for an already niche community, clearly piqued the interest of collectors worldwide. It also helped that the collection ranged from $190-$590 USD, a very accessible price range to navigate. After looking through the catalogue there were some very interesting stopwatches to discover, and it is becoming more and more clear that many of us missed out on a great opportunity.

The moral of the story is there is plenty of horological hotness to discover if you are willing to put in the time and effort. Having someone like Eric Wind do the leg-work for us is always a huge bonus, as a former Vice President and Senior Specialist for Christie’s, he is a master of curating a catalogue packed with serious horological mettle. While a stopwatch may not have the same practicality and functionality as a wristwatch, there is still something interesting ticking beneath. The curated pieces came from well known brands such as Breitling, Omega, Heuer, Heuer by Abercrombie & Fitch, Gallet, Minerva, and Favre-Leuba – all serious names with incredible roots in watchmaking, which makes it even more fascinating these timekeepers were such affordable artifacts. The fact that the pieces sold out so quickly is perhaps indicative of the growth of horological curiosity in modern watch collecting.
