Top 6 watches of the 2020 Golden Globes
Nick GouldThe first major awards ceremony in 2020 for film and television, the 77th Annual Golden Globes, was held yesterday at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. I was keeping my eye out for any notable timepieces on the wrists of the attendees and I spotted a few of the best watches of the 2020 Golden Globes. Here are the top six:
Ellen DeGeneres and her Patek Philippe Reference 5271P Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
Ellen, as we know, is a mega collector of watches with a mixture of modern and vintages pieces from Rolex and Patek Philippe. Ellen received the Carol Burnett Award and on her wrist was the Patek Philippe Reference 5271P Perpetual Calendar Chronograph. She has owned the watch since 2018. In addition to the complications of a perpetual calendar and chronograph, the watch features 58 baguette diamonds on the lugs and bezel, and the folding clasp has 22 baguette diamonds.
Taron Egerton and his Montblanc Star Legacy Automatic
Taron Egerton took home the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of Elton John in the bio-epic Rocketman. Egerton wore a Montblanc Star Legacy Automatic in stainless steel, featuring a white dial with Roman numerals and blued hour, minute and seconds hands. A day earlier, at the 2020 BAFTA Tea Party, he was sporting a Heritage Automatic with salmon-coloured dial.
Daniel Craig with a gold Omega Speedmaster Chronograph
As you may be aware, Daniel Craig will be portraying James Bond one final time in No Time to Die, which will be released in Australia on April 8. We have covered the new Omega Seamaster he is wearing in the film here. Craig was sporting an Omega Speedmaster on the red carpet, but it wasn’t the moonwatch in stainless steel. It was a Speedmaster Automatic Chronograph with triple calendar in 18k yellow gold. One heavy timepiece that stands out on the wrist with a tuxedo.
Rami Malek wearing a Cartier Tank
Rami Malek won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Actor, for his portrayal of rock legend Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. He is playing the main villain in the upcoming Bond film No Time to Die. At the Globes, Malek was sporting the evergreen classic Cartier Tank Solo in stainless steel. The watch looks so damn good with formal wear!
Pierce Brosnan and his Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Réserve de Marche
Former 007 actor Pierce Brosnan was in attendance and strolled the red carpet with his family. His sons Dylan and Paris were chosen as the 2020 Golden Globe Ambassadors. It marked the first time two brothers had been chosen for the role. On the wrist of Brosnan was a timepiece from Girard-Perregaux. The specific model is the Vintage 1945 Réserve de Marche in yellow gold. I was a bit stumped at first but after a little research I was able to identify the model. The unique case shape of the Vintage 1945 stands out on the wrist, combined with the layout of the dial, featuring the offset date at the 2 o’clock position, power reserve indicator between 5 o’clock and 6 o’clock and the running seconds at 9 o’clock.
Antonio Banderas sporting a Bulgari Octo Finissimo
Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, best known for his roles in The Mask of Zorro and the Shrek series of animated films, rocked up to the Golden Globes wearing a white Ralph Lauren tuxedo paired with an ultra-thin Bulgari Octo Finissimo in titanium. The watch is instantly recognisable from its octagonal-shaped bezel, distinctive bracelet and an overall thickness of just 5.15mm!
