The Tissot PRX has shrunk in size but not in value with the 25mm collection
Buffy Acacia- Following many years of success with the PRX, Tissot has unveiled a new 25mm collection.
- Despite its size, its still a fully-featured watch with a sapphire crystal and 100m of water resistance.
- The references offer diversity and versatility with a mix of steel, rose gold PVD, and one diamond-set dial.
The importance of the Tissot PRX can’t be understated as a modern classic. While there have now been so many editions that it feels like it’s been around forever, there was a time when the PRX was one of the key watches in the revival of 1970s style and integrated bracelets. Well, for whom those 35mm references weren’t small enough, the Tissot PRX is now available in five new configurations at just 25mm wide.
Introduced back in 2021 and reissued from the 1978 original, the Tissot PRX at 40mm was a pretty chunky watch. When the 35mm version returned to the collection, it definitely captured more of the original’s vintage credibility thanks to the modest sizing. Now once more available in 25mm cases, the PRX crosses that fine line from practical watch into time-telling jewellery. The proportions have had to shift so that the dial can remain legible, leading to a relatively thick bezel, more emphasis on the case facets, and a higher overall percentage of the watch being the bracelet. Because the bracelet is integrated, its lug-to-lug length is also 25mm, and it has a thickness of 9mm with a flat sapphire crystal. The slab sides of the case make it look substantial, but it’s still thin enough to be comfortable.
Because there’s less empty space available on the dial of the 25mm Tissot PRX, elements such as the baton indices and hands tend to stand out more. The time is still easily legible in both daylight and after dark thanks to luminous hands, and the symmetry has improved due to the lack of a date display. The dials feel highly balanced, no matter which version you pick. On that topic, there are five references immediately available, catering to a wide variety of tastes. The most versatile options are the ice blue sunburst and plain black dials, plus the black dial has the fun addition of triple diamond markers (0.04tcw) rather than batons for a little more retro flair. If you want something more elegant, then there is also mother of pearl and a golden floral effect. The case variations involve stainless steel, a two-tone steel case with a rose gold PVD-coated bezel, or a full rose gold PVD case.
The PRX 25mm may only have a quartz movement, but it shouldn’t be discounted as a serious watch under any circumstances. It still has 100m of water resistance, a sapphire crystal, and a solid steel bracelet with a milled butterfly clasp, so Tissot hasn’t cut any corners due to size. It’s also clear from the variety of references that Tissot considers it a gender neutral release, allowing pretty much anyone to find one that speaks to them. The caseback is solid with ample space for engraving should you wish to give this watch as a gift, something that’s rarely considered in the age of exhibition casebacks. The price tags feel very reasonable, although each reference varies in price due to a few considerations. Prices start at US$315 for the steel model with a blue dial, $80 less than the 40mm equivalent with a quartz movement. The most expensive version is the one entirely clad in rose gold PVD at US$515, with the diamond-set black dial edition in the middle at US$425.
