Worn & Wound launches third WW75 collaboration with Timex, with two affordable limited editions

Zach Blass
  • The third Worn & Wound x Timex collab is available in two dial configurations – “sunflower” (dusty yellow) or “sunset” (magenta).
  • They sport a barrel-style steel case sized at 37mm and a manually wound Seagull movement.
  • Each version is limited to 500 pieces, with 100 available via Timex and 900 available via the Windup Watch Shop. Price: US$239.

In the wake of holding the biggest watch fair ever held in terms of the number of exhibitors, Worn & Wound is keeping the momentum going with a new limited-edition collaboration with Timex. After two successful runs, the pair returns with the third edition of their winning formula: the Timex x Worn & Wound WW75 V3.

TIMEX WORN WOUND WW75 12

True to 1970s design, the 50-metre water-resistant case is compact, and not just your conventional circular design. The case shape is not so much saucer-reminiscent like the Doxa SUB 300, rather, its narrower form nets a barrel shape (or Batman ear shape) that can be found on ’70s cases from esteemed brands like Vacheron Constantin and military watches of the era like the RAF-inspired Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer Mechanical. In terms of dimensions, it’s wrist-friendly with its 37mm diameter, 12.7mm thickness, and 43mm lug-to-lug measurements. For the larger-wristed reading this article that might be put off by these numbers, keep in mind that the WW75 V3 is faithful to vintage style, and larger wrists sported dimensions like this in that era.

As far as the dials go, the Timex x Worn & Wound Sunflower goes for a dusty yellow two-tone that’s a tad brighter in its waffle-textured centre medallion, and darker towards the outer minutes hashes. The yellow is contrasted by playfully coloured hands, with orange for the hours and minutes, and an orange-tipped turquoise seconds hand. Adjacent to each hour index you’ll find pale white text denoting the appropriate minutes, and very subtly, you’ll notice the cardinal hour indices have dark green lines on their top facet to match the outer minute hashes.

TIMEX WORN WOUND WW75 2

The WW75 V3 Sunset offers a darker alternative to the brighter Sunflower, utilising a magenta, waffle-textured dial that’s more singular in hue. One notable stylistic difference between the pair, which are otherwise nearly identical, is that instead of numerals adjacent to each hour index, the Sunset is a sector dial with light blue lines extending from the cardinal points. Another subtle difference is that the non-cardinal hour indexes have teal borders to match the outer minute hashes of the dial. Lastly, the hours and minutes hands are executed in dark teal, with pink luminous fillings, and the running seconds hand is rendered in white with a lume-matching pink tip. It’s worth noting, despite costing US$239, that these watches have applied indices rather than printed ones.

Colour-matching the dials, each watch is sold on a nylon NATO-style strap. The Sunflower gets a green strap to match the minutes hashes (or perhaps act as a stem of the sunflower-inspired dial), while the Sunset is on a two-tone NATO that matches the sector lines and hands of the dial. If NATO straps are not your style, the second edition of the WW75 was available on a mesh bracelet, and with a 20mm lug width, the world is your oyster when it comes to aftermarket options.

TIMEX WORN WOUND WW75 6

While the ’70s design the WW75 is based on was quartz-driven, this pair opts for a manually wound Seagull TY6 that offers a cost-effective, mechanical experience.

For US$239, the Timex x Worn & Wound WW75 V3 watches are, in my humble opinion, an excellent and approachable means of bringing fun colours into your watch box. For those just starting out, both the compact size and affordable price of entry make the pair a strong avenue to head down for your first mechanical watch.
