Our British Watchmaker’s Weekender is coming to SoHo, NYC this weekend – do you have your ticket yet?
Time+TideThere are moments in the life of a new space when you stop and think: this is exactly what we built it for. This weekend is one of those moments. The Time+Tide NYC Discovery Studio at 460 Broome Street, our newest home, our latest bet on the idea that watch culture deserves a physical address, is about to host its first-ever British Watchmakers’ Weekender. And we want to make sure that every single person leaves with their mind thoroughly expanded.
We’ve now staged the British Watchmakers’ Weekender twice in our London Discovery Studio, and both times it has been, without exaggeration, among the most joyful, electric, and genuinely illuminating events we’ve ever been part of. The first edition sold out entirely. Hundreds of people came through our doors in Oxford Circus over the course of two days and encountered British watchmaking not as an abstract concept or a bullet point in a brand’s heritage story, but as a living, breathing, intensely creative thing. They held the watches. They talked to the people who made them. They left changed. New York deserves that same experience. So we’re bringing it to the Big Apple.
Here’s what we’ve noticed since we opened on Broome Street: American collectors are hungry for discovery. They are tired of the same names, the same showcases, the same watches behind the same glass in the same boutiques. They want to be surprised. They want to find the next thing, to get ahead of the curve, to walk out of a room with a story. That, in its purest form, is what British watchmaking delivers — and it’s what this weekend is going to deliver in spades.
The brands coming to us this weekend represent everything that makes the British watch scene worth paying attention to. The high-end aesthetic meets lower prices and higher accessibility of Dennison watches. The rigorous, uncompromising design DNA of Christopher Ward, which has earned it a global following not through marketing spend but through sheer product integrity. The colour-forward, energetic playfulness of Farer. These are not brands that exist because a hedge fund decided watches were a good category to enter. They exist because someone, somewhere, had something genuinely new to say about what a watch could be.
