How about that? Normally seen as a procession around the streets of Monaco, this year’s edition was anything but dull due to heavy rain right before the start of the famous race. All of Christian Horner’s rain dances seemed to have paid off with his Red Bull Racing duo of Sergio “Checo” Perez and Max Verstappen making the most of the conditions and pit stops to move into the podium places. It was Checo’s first win in Monaco, pipping Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in second with team mate and defending champ Max Verstappen third, increasing Red Bull’s lead in the Constructors’ Championship.

Cue pandemonium on the podium as champagne was sprayed everywhere. You’d be forgiven during the blur of fizz and bubbles to mistake the black TAG Heuer strapped to Checo’s wrist as the newly released Monaco Dark Lord (check out Andrew’s video below for all the details).

Turns out Checo actually had on his trusty Carrera Tourbillon Sergio Perez Edition to celebrate the huge win. This piece obviously means a lot to Checo as it was presented to him before his home GP in Mexico last year.

The limited-edition Carrera incorporates a chronograph and tourbillon within its 45mm case. The piece is a limited edition of 21 pieces, however Checo’s piece is unique as it features his motto “never give up” on the case back and has his racing number 11 engraved as well.

However, defending World Champ Max Verstappen was wearing the modern interpretation of the 1977 classic reference 74033, as he celebrated his third place finish alongside his teammate on the podium. Expect to see the Dark Lord on Max’s wrist a few more times before the season is out as he looks to defend his title. After this performance we’re betting Checo’s equally stealthy Carrera is sure to be not far behind.
