The VOXEL Meridion VX01-E brings digital timekeeping logic to a mechanical jumping hour

New watch brands appear constantly, but seldom does an indie launch with a genuinely novel way to read the time. VOXEL, a new maison founded by creative director Thibault Luc and microtechnology engineer Bruno Herbet, has done exactly that. With its creative design rooted in Lyon, it’s a new contender in the best French watch brands category, with engineering carried out in the Vallée de Joux. The brand’s debut release is the Meridion VX01-E featuring a proprietary 12/24-hour jumping display.
Virtually no other mechanical watch on the market features a complication that works exactly like the Meridion. What makes VOXEL unique is that the numbering system dynamically transitions between a 12-hour track and a 24-hour track – a format that manufacturers normally approach in a much different way, be they standard or high-end jumping-hour watches, simply clicking over from “12” back to “1”. Even standard 24-hour jumpers exist, but they continuously read 13, 14, and 15 without altering their behaviour based on day or night.
The closest mechanical relatives to the Meridion are watches that change appearance based on the time of day, but they rely on visual indicators. Ultimately, the only direct equivalent to the Meridion is something like a digital smartwatch, where the watch face seamlessly clicks from “12” to “13:00” and then back from “24” to “1:00”. VOXEL’s breakthrough is to take this exact logic and replicate it entirely with springs, gears, and a mechanical module. The watchmaker is releasing the Meridion VX01-E in three different colours: silver, blue and grey – each featuring a combination of grained and sunburst finishes, illuminated by Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9. The Charcoal Grey and Electric Blue dials are limited to 120 pieces each, while the Silver Star variant is even more exclusive and capped at just 60 pieces.
To house this new mechanism in the Meridion VX01-E, VOXEL chose a decagonal stainless steel case measuring 41.4mm across and 12.2mm thick, but the key metric is the compact 45.5mm lug-to-lug footprint, which keeps the watch wearable for the slender-wristed community. The case itself is a multi-part construction crafted from 904L stainless steel, capped off with a screwed grade 5 titanium caseback. Up top, the brushed-and-polished ten-sided bezel leans into a compass-like aesthetic, while the chamfered flanks give the watch a cool, structural feel.
Beneath the domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the dial combines grained and sunburst finishes to create visual depth. The layout transforms throughout the day alongside the jumping display, using contrasting index layouts generously treated with Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 for low-light legibility. When the hour hand reaches 1PM, the hour indexes switch from 12-hour to 24-hour format, reversing at 1:00 AM, thus eliminating any ambiguity between daytime and nighttime hours. In addition, the minute track sits discreetly on the flange, while the blue-coloured seconds hand adds a pop of colour to the multi-textured dial. The First Edition is available in three distinct variants: a Charcoal Grey dial, a Silver Star dial, and an Electric Blue dial for those looking to expand their rotation of blue dial watches.
To drive that unique display, the Meridion VX01-E relies on a Swiss automatic Newton P092 calibre paired with VOXEL’s in-house complication module. The brand calls this setup the “Reactor”. It’s a clever bit of engineering that doubles as both a structural plate and a casing ring wrapping entirely around the movement. You can get a look at it through the double-smoked glass of the titanium caseback. On the spec front, the watch delivers a standard 44-hour power reserve and a surprisingly robust 120-metre water resistance.
When it comes to securing the Meridion VX01-E, VOXEL offers two interchangeable options. You can choose a textile Alcantara strap, available in six colours for a more relaxed, sporty vibe, or opt for the integrated 904L stainless steel bracelet, which really plays up the sharp, architectural lines of that decagonal case. Furthermore, the case features a highly standard 20mm lug width, meaning you’ll have absolutely no trouble swapping in your own aftermarket straps if you want to mix things up down the line.
With a limited production of just 300 pieces for this founding collection, VOXEL is making a strong opening statement. The Meridion VX01-E delivers a highly technical, genuinely novel take on time-telling, earning its place as a candidate for the 2026 GPHG Challenge category.
